Guest guest
One lonely little chick was hatched on the 21st. We named that one Solstice. The mother hen is a mean one and nearly pecked her to death before she was rescued. So she had to be brought into the house to be cared for. Poor little thing has been so lonely and has peeped and fussed for company. So today my son gave in and went to the feed store to buy her a little buddy. He came home with THREE instead of one. lol Here's a few pictures of the cute little girls. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
They all look the same but the three from the feed store are supposed to be Rhode Island Reds. The one hatched here is Aurancana and Rhode Island Red. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
I must admit to just loving the "look" of Rhode Island Reds,New Hampshire Reds, too, though they are less flashy looking! My Italian maternal grandmother had chickens at "the cabin" onUpper Twin Lake, in Idaho, about 70 miles from Spokane, WA.Keep it up, Sharon and let us know how the chicks are faring.Love to them all, and to you all, here.\nTo: MSersLife Sent: Sun, June 27, 2010 10:35:37 AMSubject: Re: our chicks They all look the same but the three from the feed store are supposed to be Rhode Island Reds. Guest guest
It sounds like your grandmother had a nice flock, n:) Our older birds are Aurancana and Buff Orpingtons but our rooster is a Rhode Island Red. He is such a nice rooster and we just fell in love with him. He's nice to the humans and very protective of all of his girls. He even is protective over the ducks. Our last rooster met an untimely death after he attacked my, then, 6 year old granddaughter. MommyHen hatched two chicks this spring and they are a beautiful mix. Before we moved to Alaska we had a hen house full of Rhode Island Reds, Aurancanas and Wyandottes. Aurancanas are the chickens that lay colored eggs like blue, green and pinkish. All my chickens are waving hello to you! lolSharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
