Kate asked: What sorts of symptoms accompany them, if youdon't mind me asking? The symptoms that accompany my flares are usually numbness on one side of my body, sometimes the left sometimes the right (mainly in my hands, arms and legs), pins and needles, muscle spasms (worse than normal), loss of balance, drop foot and a general unwell feeling (almost like a whole body ache like I have a flu or something). All of this is accompanied by pain and exhaustion.I've also had vertigo with one of my flares and a migraine with another one. This time the numbness is on my right side and it includes my face. Also I have pins and needles on my left hand and arm. I try to avoid steriods because I am also diabetic and they send my blood sugar screaming up to dangerous levels.I already take Gabapentin (for my nerve issues), Baclofen (for the muscle spasms), Arthritis Strength Tylenol (for the other pain), Amphetamines(for energy), and Ambien

(so I can sleep at night).I'm sure that I'm forgetting some of the lovely symptoms but those are the main ones.Keep smiling,CaroleM

That's a lot to deal with, Carole.I am surprised that you are on amphetaminesfor energy; usually it is provigil or somethinglike it, like ritalin. Be careful with Ambien, Ihad heard it is addictive. I hope you don't mindme sharing that...blessings, Kate Symptoms of flaresTo: MSersLife > Kate asked:> > What sorts of symptoms > accompany them, if you> don't mind me asking?> > The symptoms that accompany my flares are usually numbness on > one side of my body, sometimes the left sometimes the right > (mainly in my hands, arms and legs), pins and needles, muscle > spasms (worse than normal), loss of balance, drop foot and a > general unwell feeling (almost like a whole body ache like I > have a flu or something). I tried provigil (it didn't work) and nuvigil (it worked better but then I discovered both vigils render your birthcontrol ineffective.) So far the amphetamines are working fine. As for the Ambien, I tried rozarem but it didn't work and I really needed something because I wasn't sleeping more than an hour at a time, then I'd be up two hours before I could doze off again. On not so bad days I don't take it and so far no problem I can sleep if I'm not having issues.

Ritalin is an amphetamine-class drug. I was also just put on them...not sure yet if they are working or not...may need a higher dose. Since I may also be ADD, there's a real chance that this type of drug will never work for me. As for Provigil...it's awesome, but not covered by my insurance.

I was on Ritalin for about it year and it worked okay. First I tried Amantadine but it didn't work at all for me. I was on Provigil but my insurance wouldn't cover it. The good thing about Ritalin is it's under $20. I have a friend (with MS) who is taking Adderall. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
