Guest guest
Hi .Definitely 100% -- this is oxalates. I have 2 kids on the spectrum, we've ran 2 (Organic Acids Test) OATs on my daughter and confirmed she has (had) an oxalate issue (although on our most recent OAT that I just got back on Friday, it seems that the problem is letting up a bit with B6 supplementation). Grainy sandy stools are the tell-tale sign. Since then, we've made a lot of developmental gains (although admittedly, we still have many things to work on). Oxalates inhibit cell functions, can hinder absorption of nutrients, and really throw your minerals balance for a loop. Oxalates really suck but the good news is that it can be fixed with diet and supplementation and if you're seeing this, it's likely you will see gains in your child if you address the oxalate problems. Really, check out the trying_low_oxalates group that Toni suggested. It's a really awesome group, like this one. So many people on there are so hardcore about biomed. I learned so so so much from this group and the low oxalates group. For us, it wasn't taurine. We still see sandy stools intermittently when Maia is going through an oxalate detox (called " dumping " ). We just ran an amino acids profile (just got that back on Friday, too) and Maia's taurine was well within the reference range across the board. No anomalies with taurine. It was 100% definitely oxalates for us. hi everyone My son 3yrs 9mths has been passing grainy sand in his stool, we have bin gluten, wheat free and milk free for over four mths we have even stoped soy as he reacts badly to this. are considering SCD and starting this soon I am 100% sure he did not eat any sand. Guest guest
We don't have grainy stools, black flecks , OR white specks after treating consistently for parasites. We do low oxalate but I'm with Caryn...I think parasites and oxalates are related. Giardia uses glucose, arginine and alanine for energy. Can also cause celiac, lactose intolerance and fatty acid malabsorption in the small intestine. Hmmm...sounds like my kid.
