Guest guest
Ok Groups, I would love to have some input on what is the best quality DHEA that can be taken? I'm thinking about trying this in a very small amt, since it is the precursor to so many hormones and converts to what is needed (hopefully). I've been reading about it constantly over the past few weeks, probably 50 or 60 different sources, and they all say about the same things. If NEEDED (and I'm 55 now), then it can improve the autoimmune part of thyroid disease (not the poor lame thyroid itself, I know), mood, energy, blood pressure, but all the articles I've read says don't expect any miracles. I'm just thinking I need it. I cannot even use the Estrogel. After one week on that stuff, my breathing was slowed down, and I was soooo sluggish, we can probably guess what THAT was about. Sometimes I wonder.

Guest guest
I have been interested to read that natural progesterone can metabolically cascade into other hormones including DHEA. --- marin@...> wrote: > Ok Groups, I would love to have some input on what > is the best quality DHEA that can be taken? Guest guest
Yes, I've tried the progesterone, but when I use it in the dose of 40 mgs, as advised on the label, it makes me sooo sleepy for some reason, with the last tube I got. I know that pregnenolone is the " mother " of them all, but that the beginnings of all of them are the cholesterols made in the liver. I'm pretty sure that, at my age, and with my symptoms, I'm low on the DHEA, but I don't think that I am on estrogen. I know that I need to test, but can't do that right now. Guest guest
MARY: Just a quick note to you. I found and many others have found that if you are taking thyroid hormone already...DHEA might turbo-charge it. This would mean you may have to peel back on your thyroid hormone to make room for it...or scrap the DHEA. In my case...even though my DHEA tested low...I decided to just do the thyroid thing for now. ( DHEA gives me zits anyway..even at the lowest dose. ) IT TOOK ME A VERY LONG TIME to figure this exact relationship out..as no one seemed to make the connection. OF course it makes perfect sense that the adrenals do a lot of the same thing the thyroid does. THEY sort of work as a tag team... ~E:) wrote: Yes, I've tried the progesterone, but when I use it in the dose of 40 mgs, as advised on the label, it makes me sooo sleepy for some reason, with the last tube I got. Guest guest
Yes, you are absolutely right, but I'm thinking that many of the players have gone on permanent vacation, as in retired, lol. Mind you, I never liked shaving my legs, BUT I never figured that I would have NO hair at ALL on them and in some other hidden places, and I frankly believe that I have a strong combination of hormone problems, but one of them ISN'T necessarily estrogens. From everything I've been reading and seeing with other people over the past 4 to 5 yrs, I'm suspecting that this hormone is going to be the main one I'm lacking in, if not growth hormone, but I'm not touching THAT stuff with a ten foot pole. Too expensive, hard to obtain, etc.....plus growth hormone can have gross repercussions, despite what all the little salespersons say. The energy factor is the main clue to me. Nothing in the hormonal system works well when something else is completely missing or way too low. Darn, I need those saliva tests. Re: DHEA MARY: Just a quick note to you. THOSE ones can run the whole gamut and see what is lacking and figure on a strategy that you can be comfortable with. A lot of women who hit menopause can have a trouncing of the thryoid hormone that makes it so they have hairlessness. My lady has run all the spit tests on me and tons of bloods. I've learned what parts are most important..so at least I can prioritize and figure what agreees with me. ~E:) Re: DHEA MARY: Just a quick note to you. Guest guest
Interesting that you bring up the hair thing, ... I lost almost all of my 'adult' hair when I was low thyroid and being treated on T4 by the docs... that includes most of my leg hair. It came back... remember all the teasing about my braided leg hairs? It came back after being on DHEA for a few months. I'd never been tested. But considering how bad my condition was after the poor doc care for so long and all my symptoms I was pretty sure that the DHEA was needed. I got 25 mcg tabs and quartered them. I took a quarter of a tab with my night time supps... for about a year. Anyway... all my grown up hair came back and that's when I started getting teased here about braiding leg hairs.... ....and... over this last year.. cutting back on my dose and then running out of thyroid when I couldn't get my shipment in.... I started losing leg hair again... It's REALLY thinned out and what is left is weak and short. Now.. I know a lot of ladies think that is a good thing... but... when you realize that it's not growing is another symptom that our body isn't working right.... it's not such a good thing. I'm just starting back on a low dose of thyroid (natural) and have started DHEA again. Only a quarter tab every third day for a while to give my body a bit of a boost. Just my observations as I went through this hairless thing with myself... Guest guest
I'm in agreement here Topper. I, too, am going to start around 5 mgs or so (when I get the right brand or a reputable brand, that is) just about every other day or so, since I am very wary about this, and just be aware of any changes anywhere, including blood pressure and such. I really do feel like it may be ONE of the answers, though I know that the whole hormonal system is messed up. Some people would say that this hairless condition is normal aging, but I don't agree, since I work in a nursing home and see people's bodies almost every single day. I see most people at the age of 90 or so, and they do have leg and underarm and pubic hair, so no, this is not normal for a 50 something yr old woman. I mentioned that because, even as lay people, we have to have something to compare this to, and it's just not normal. Re: DHEA Interesting that you bring up the hair thing, ... Guest guest
I'm 54 years old and I still have just as much hair as I ever did. I've never been a particularly hairy woman and so I didn't have to shave as often as many woman, but the amount for me is pretty much the same as far as I can tell. There is one area where it may be a little thinner, but it's also been that way for quite some time now too. Now, if I could just get rid of the new hair on my chin and upper lip, that would be a blessing... Guest guest
Exactly! I've used Schiff brand... When I got the first bottle it was everywhere, this was about four years ago.... it was a year or two later that I needed the second... that was harder to find, more stores were taking it off the shelf, just like a couple of years after that Selenium was starting to get pulled off the shelves.... but if you do some hunting you can find it.... that said.. .I need to check the expire date on that second bottle... I'm using what's left of that right now... I figure I won't need it for long so I'm just planning on using up some more of those.... Okay.. answered that, the why I've kept that partial bottle safely in my pill bottle case... No expiration date. I have my Puritan's Pride catalog sitting here so I peeked.. they are still carrying DHEA in 5, 25 and 50 mcg size tabs! Guest guest
You know what I noticed? A lot of those 'extra' hairs up on the chin and lip... as my leg hair thins the extras increase... as the leg hair goes to 'normal' the extras ease up... My thinking is that is an indication of a balance/imbalance thing??? Guest guest
Thanks Topper. So it was the Schiff brand that you absolutely knew worked? Re: DHEA Exactly! I've used Schiff brand... Guest guest
It's the only brand I've tried for DHEA (I've used several other items that they make.. Vit C, Selenium... probably others, but not coming to mind right now)... so I can't really do any comparisons on DHEA... though it did work for me... ... and I've used quite a few of Puritan's Pride products with no complaints. I do like their selenium, B-1, Vit C... and progesterone cream. Topper ()Yahoo IM: toppertwowww.thyrophoenix.comwww.toppers-place.com On Fri, 8 Dec 2006 16:46:26 -0600 " " writes: Thanks Topper.
