Once again, we are having issues with dairy. Each time my son has an infraction

he has an asthma attack during the night, an eczema flare next day and sometimes

diarrhea. His last skin test and IgE blood test for dairy were negative. Our

allergist says it's all due to leaky gut and thinks it will improve eventually

if we keep working on healing. I'm not convinced this is not a true allergy and

only an intolerance. He's had problems with dairy since birth. He is now nine

and his reactions to it have gotten worse with time. So, my question is what

can I give my son after an infraction that may lessen his reaction. Would an

anti-histamine or Alka Seltzer Gold help?

We have delayed milk allergy too. My son likes cheese, sorry he LOVES cheese so I always cave and let himhave " a little " and then day by day he has some (no rxn) and bam he gets all jacked up after a week. So I am not letting him have it (again) anymore. Actually milk is ok, cheese is his high IGG thing. He'd prob be ok once a week but seems like if I let him have it once he is asking everyday.

I give quercetin daily, and you could give a little more one bad inflammation days (it is supposed to keep the mast cells from going nuts)I also give 1/2 sudafed and 1/2 zyrtec as approved by his allergist. You might want to clear that

with your son's doc b/c I'm not a doc and my kid doesn't have asthma, " just " bad allergies.

One mother I know gives gm doses of niacin and vitamin C to her husband who gets asthmatic attack on having cheese. Dittowith the son who has schizophrenia. She says they can take cheese without a problem provided they have taken their niacin and C. If you wish to know her doses then I can get you those. But the best is to avoid the allergens. I myself get sneezes andrhinitis (histamine release) if I take milk. Even whey gives me trouble if I take more than two tablespoons any day.Ratan.-----------Ratan Singh, Phone: 91 141 2652561, mail: ratanpsych@...- Certificate in Food & Nutrition; Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education; Life Member, Nutrition Soc. of India; Member ISOM- Author of "Nutrition & Supplements in Major Mental Illnesses";- M.A. (Psychol), Postgraduate Diploma in Medical & Social Psychology, Ph.D.;- Certified Behavior Therapist (from late Prof. J. Hey Channa,

I was eagerly awaiting a response to the diarrhea part of this question. Last

week, my 18-year-old had a whole bottle of chocolate milk on an empty stomach.

She should have known better because we have generations of sensitivity to milk,

but she was at work, and had to eat/drink something fast. After several hours of

stomach cramping and shooting pains, she had diarrhea while curled up on the

floor of our bathroom. I had to clean up a big mess. It helped that I had a very

bad cold and a very stuffed nose. In case she has another infraction, which

she'd better not after this experience, do you think the alka seltzer gold and

benadryl would help her avoid all the pain and diarrhea?

wow...that is a tuff one for me as I never had the severe diahreah that your daughter had..my son was more loose stool...but the things that come to mind with severe diahreah is first i would use some charcoal to absorb the bulk of the toxin(milk) then i would be giving pysilium powder a teaspoon every couple hours...and of course make an elecrolyte drink so to prevent dehydration..

just ideas...

Ratan,

Could you describe your rhinitis? Mia has started with this nasal drip thing

that comes on suddenly. . . I am intrigued

Thanks,
