Guest guest
Makin' a list Checkin' it twice Nada for sure Will be naughty not nice KO Claus is comin' to town. Ho Ho Ho, KOs, are you all taking special care of yourselves this season? Make SURE Santa has you at the top of his list, because if you leave it up to a PD, there may be a lump of coal in your stocking. Only you can make sure it doesn't happen. In the spirit of the season, I offer you: KO CLAUS's SELF-CARE CHECKLIST 1. Have I made sure there are plenty of time-outs built into my holiday so I am not left with Nada and Fada for too long a time? 2. Have I prepared diversions such as movies, books, puzzles and electronics that can allow me a reprieve even when I have to be under the same roof? 3. Have I taken care to provide myself with foods I like, treats, bubble bath, sports activities, exercise or local sightseeing that will make my holiday special no matter who or what is around me? 4. Do I have the phone numbers of a few sane friends who can take my calls if I'm feeling especially lonely? Have I asked if they could please take even a five-minute call from me on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day? 5. Do I have my arrival and exit timed and planned so they can be as effortless and drama-free as possible? 6. Have I mentally gone over the things Nada and Fada routinely neglect, such as not enough sleeping room for visitors, planned meals, snacks, local transportation, etc etc. and made every effort to come up with work-arounds should they fail to meet expected needs, since experience shows they WILL fail to meet expected needs? 7. Have I mentally prepared myself to turn my attention away from Nada and Fada as much as possible and focus on the needs and happiness of myself and other non-PDs present at the holiday? How am I going to do this? Do I have a written list of helpful dos and don'ts to refer to in the pressure-cooker of the holiday? If anyone else would like at add to this list please do. Wishing everyone a tranquil Merry Christmas. And remember, if we can't be tranquil at least we can be tranquilized!
