Guest guest
http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/in_focus & id=6195664 I am appaled at the twist the media is taking with this tragic event. The memorial service and funerals are not even complete yet and the media is taking its digs at air medical transport. The way PHI is being protrayed in the Houston Media makes them appear as a money hungry corporation only interested in profit. I think that the NTSB need an opportunity to conclude what happend to Med 12 and the media needs to stop making uneducated guesses.
Guest guest
I expect a little more from ABC13. I am disappointed in the way these services are being portrayed. Anyone of them would want a helicopter present in their time of need. Some people are very quick to cast criticism before they have all the facts. All of the men and women of Aero-medical service, any public services for that matter, should be honored for their selfless service to complete strangers. How about praises and a thank you before a critical finger being pointed? I left a comment of the ABC13 article online, thank you for bringing this news piece into the light. Guest guest
and M, I understand the emotions and grief we are all experiencing right now.? I myself knew 2 of the four people on the aircraft.? It was a horrible tragedy...but...we must not allow this emotion and grief to prevent us from critically analyzing this issue, this incident, and the other 4 or 5 fatal accidents?in the last few weeks?so that we can do?as much as possible?to prevent this from happening to more of our peers and co-workers.? This ABC13 story presents nothing but FACTS on the air medical industry.? It doesn't present PHI any worse than any other air med company...they are only mentioned 3 times in the article, 1 identifying them as the company that lost an aircraft, one stating they were putting night-vision goggles on even before LifeFlight, and one stating they limit the hours a pilot can fly...they do expose the facts about the dangers and increasing crash numbers for this industry, which paints us all (ground and air) in a negative light. I personally am sickened by all of this.? I long have been advocating safer ground ambulances because we are killing ourselves in horribly high numbers every week in ambulances...but similarly, the stupidity and high adrenaline excuses for sending patients on helicopters when they are not needed?must be de-bunked, steps to making air-medical flights safer must stop being fought by our industry,?and we as an INDUSTRY need to stop accepting these things as?okay.? 70% of flights are for inter-facility transfers and horribly high numbers of scene flights are walking out of the hospital the same day...we can; no we?MUST do better than this. I would hate to think that the legacy this tragedy and loss of 3 of our co-workers had was to continue to fly helicopters into the ground because we are not willing to critically and objectively look at what we all are doing.? Instead, while the emotions are on edge and the nerve endings hot and hurting, we need to begin debreading this wound and examine what we are all doing in regards to air transport.? We need to?use the inertia of this event to DRIVE change and drive it now.? If not, in 2 or 3 weeks, a couple of months, or next year, we will still be doing the same thing and we possibly will be mourning the loss of even more friends and co-workers. Guest guest
The national media is on this (after the U of W crash-but 4 crashes in 3 weeks gets everybody's attention). There finally might be some pressure on the FAA to do something besides fiddle while Rome burns. We owe it to the spirits of the departed to assure nobody else has to undergo a similar fate. Regardless, they will always be heroes for the work they did and the sacrifice they made. From: texasems-l [mailto:texasems-l ] On Behalf Of THEDUDMAN@... Guest guest
There are none, for the most part. The only evidence behind helicopters are some sub-group analyses with questionable results. Most evidence fails to show any benefit from helicopters in any condition (basically what Dr. Mattox was saying)..
