Guest guest
My mother had no real awareness that she was pregnant--she was 37--and just assumed that shehad gone into menopause--until her OB/GYN decided that if his hunch was right (this was 1937),that one X-Ray late in a pregnancy would not makea huge difference. There I was, along with the skeletal remains of my identical twin sister who had, apparently, succumbed early in the pregnancy. As it happened, my mother went into premature labor and itwas decided, based on the X-Ray, that I would be"viable," as they say in the medical would. True.I was born 2.5 months early, weighing a hefty 2.5+ lbs.I was 13" long. The rest is history. My mother calledme "Toby," and my father, as I was the youngest of six, addressed me as "Kid!" The "Toby" was a play on "ToBE or NOT to BE," and my father had my mother dropthat one. So, by the time I was about 3.5 years old, mymother called me "Honey," and my father always addressedme as "Kid!" -- except in letters, where they actually usedthe first name that they had given me.I think that I am much taller than Akiba; we are not discussing my current weight--though I have lost a lot--asI was always very thin until I had my first joint replacementin 1994--followed by three others, and one repair surgeryto my left knee. I think this is called the "retired athletesyndrome." I am about 30 lbs overweight, but no one, noteven my doctors believe it; I am about 5' 9" tall and shrinking.I think that "gumdrop" is a lot cuter than "Toby" or even "Honey"or "Kid!" -- though my mother did say that she did not know whatshe would have done with two of me!Love to you, Akiba, and to Sharon and to all here with us,n, who "always has been rushing to get to the head of the line",according to my next brother up from me in age. . . . Guest guest
I was a 10 month baby, but when I finally came out I was about 5 lbs and tiny. Mom told them to put me back, I wasn't done yet. But, like all of their kids, I looked like *oh damn, I don't remember* (some actor, starts with ...not all that attractive, either) so she figured I was theirs after all. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Re: n has wheels! Guest guest
Wow, n, G*d really wanted you here!To think of you as that tiny just astounds me..andhere you are 5'9"! I'm so sorry that your sisterdidn't grow alongside you, though you were a miraclebaby. Back then, I'm sure there was not much hopefor such a wee baby.Look at you now! You grace our lives with your wisdomand humour. I feel that much more grateful that you arehere.love to you my friend, KateTo: MSersLife Sent: Mon, November 29, 2010 9:45:20 PMSubject: Re: / for Akiba & group, smallnessz &am p;nb sp; My mother had no real awareness that she was pregnant--she was 37--and just assumed that shehad gone into menopause--until her OB/GYN decided that if his hunch was right (this was 1937),that one X-Ray late in a pregnancy would not makea huge difference. I think this is called the "retired athletesyndrome." I am about 30 lbs overweight, but no one, noteven my doctors believe it; I am about 5' 9" tall and shrinking.I think that "gumdrop" is a lot cuter than "Toby" or even "Honey"or "Kid!" -- though my mother did say that she did not know whatshe would have done with two of me!Love to you, Akiba, and to Sharon and to all here with us,n, who "always has been rushing to get to the head of the line",according to my next brother up from me in age. . . . When I was small, I was so tiny that my mom thought I'd never learn to walk...because everyone always insisted on carrying me. My nickname was "gumdrop" (repeat it and DIE!) I was the kind of kid who would open the door to strangers and tell them mom couldn't come to the door because she was in the shower...times were more innocent then...I'd probably have ended up in the news if I were born now, and not in the good part of the news... ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Re: n has wheels!
