Guest guest
If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this that happened to us on Friday. Guest guest
OMG! That is horrible! My heart aches for the both of you! What a brave young man you have on your hands, to be willing to go back in there after that! Which Childrens hospital was this? I will be sure never to go there. And the testing they did (atleast the non verbal) sounds absolutely barbaric. I find the lack of verbal communication in a situation like that is the most intimidating out of any circumstance I can think of. Sorry again you guys had to go through this. Hugs for Malichi and you. Guest guest
Thanks . It was Children's Hospital. I am " collecting myself " and some information to go have a meeting with patient relations. It's bigger than MY experience. Every parent should be able to discuss how to handle behavior before the session begins. > > OMG!  That is horrible! Guest guest
at least avoid the Behavior Health Location. We had an audiology appt. today and it was WONDERFUL. The ladies even explained the test procedures and asked if he may freak out if they had to touch his ears, so they just saved that part for last and it was smooth sailing. The psych-guy was a MORON. > > > > > > OMG!  That is horrible! Guest guest
Are you sure this was a psychologist? I never heard of one doing that. Maybe he was a psychiatrist, which are medically trained; whereas, a psychologist is trained in psychology, which emphasizes the importance of how emotions are connected to behaviors. Every psychologist I have seen knows such behaviors would create aggression. Love and prayers, Heidi N If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this that happened to us on Friday. Guest guest
I am so sorry your beautiful child went through this. We had a good pediatrician and psychologist team at Childrens Hospital in Denver. We were in the same room the whole time. My daughter had fun through the whole evaluation process. They were so good with my baby. The psychologist was on the floor with her, trying to engage her the whole time. I felt sorry for the poor lady. As good as she was with my baby, though, she was kind of mean to us at the end, during the oral reporting of their findings. It was like night and day. She scolded us for doing biomed, she scolded us for sleeping next to her at night, she scolded us for not taking part in their free sleep study (the hospital is too far away to do that), and she also repeatedly scolded me because I re-phrased something she said in the wrong way; she told us we should be doing the Early Start Denver Model of ABA, as opposed to traditional ABA and she said something bad about traditional ABA, which I don't remember to this day, but I re-phrased it as " robotic " , which must not have been the word she used, so she seemed very angry about being quoted wrongly, and she kept saying, " I did not say that. I did not say that. " every time she mentioned ABA again. She was really rude to us, but she was awesome with my baby, and that's all that matters. I am glad you intervened on your child's behalf. If we don't speak up for them, who will? > > If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this that happened to us on Friday. Guest guest
So sorry for you having to be scolded Mel. They just lose touch with " human-ness " and everyone becomes a subject of study and statistics. Doesn't it feel that way? > > > > If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this that happened to us on Friday. Guest guest
No words, My blood was boiling while reading the post.I am honestly so lucky that all the folks that I came across for my son were super nice. And None of the the evaluations were done in our absence, as a matter of fact, they insisted our presence so I wonder what books or source of information these folks are using as their source of knowledge. Is it http://www.nationwidechildrens.org/ you are talking about?Noel If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this that happened to us on Friday. Guest guest
yes Noel...thats the location. I have put a call in to patient relations and requested a meeting. I will be typing up our experience as well as a list of suggested changes as well as a " Behavior Modification Worksheet " so they can see that I mean it when I speak and that they HAVE to utilize this " missing " information. > > > ** > > > > > > If you are taking in your kid for a diagnosis you will want to read this > > that happened to us on Friday.
