Guest guest
Hi Everyone Flo has asked me to post regarding (this shows she is serious about staying off the list for the time being). As many of you are aware Jess has regularly indulged in partying at night. Quite often it has been an indicator of her coming down with a cold or sinus infection etc. This summer has surpassed herself rather than maybe once a week its 4/5 times a week. She seems to be waking around 2/3 in the morning and remaining awake for 2-3 hours quite often Flo or I have to try to settle her. This can be quite difficult since she is sometimes self stimming or she just cannot get to sleep. As she has been on school holiday apart from Flo and I being knackered she has been able to sleep in. However Jess goes back to school on Wednesday and she will struggle with school if this continues. Jess' problem is not that she cannot get to sleep but that she wakes up. Those of you that give melatonin to your children do you give to get them to sleep or to keep them asleep. Does it work if given when she wakes up in the night? We cannot just go the doctors to get melatonin prescribed because it is not licensed here. If we have sufficient information about melatonin and whether it is appropriate for we maybe able to convince our GP to prescribe it (it is very annoying but I have spoken to a parent here in the UK who has managed to get melatonin prescribed for their child but I cannot remember who - being 1st point of contact for the group in the UK and doing the newsletter means I speak to quite a few). Any thoughts please on this old problem that has been discussed regularly. Thanks Simon

Guest guest
Hi , my 5 year old (CHaRGE) often wakes up around 2 - 3 in the morning and stays awake for a couple of hours, it definately makes a difference in her mood the next day and when she is tired she walks into everything, walls, doors, and falls over alot. She seems to do it every few weeks and her internal alarm clock just goes off the same time every morning and boing... she's awake. What I have been doing for the past year is on the 3rd night I give her a sedative (in Australia it is called Vallergan or Phenergan, but not sure in US) and that knocks her out and she has a good sleep, I do that for 3 nights to " reset her clock " and then she is fine for a few weeks. Good luck and let us know how it goes. http://begasfamily.blogspot.com/ > > Hi Everyone! > We are brand new to the listserve (as of tonight), but I can say that my kiddo, Isaac, 5, has been waking up around 3-5 am for the last year as well!!! He has a nurse through the night (trach care) and he sees her and wants to party! Sometimes he doesn't even seem tired...any suggestions? Isaac did grow 10cm this year (huge growth spurt for him). I thought maybe that had something to do with it...hmmm. > > > > --------------------------------- > All-new Yahoo! Guest guest
Martha Thanks, this information is most useful.Jess was at it again last night, she woke Flo up at 2 when she woke up and me at 3.30 when she started crying not able to get back to sleep and me again at 5.15 when I finally got her back to sleep. This household does sympathise with you and 's sleep pattern. I will do a search on Tradezone as well as look in the out of date BNF (British National Formulary) - the doctors bible to drugs available in the UK - we have. It's time for Flo to acquire the latest one from work! It's not just that a prescription is required for melatonin it is not even licensed for use here. This is why it is so frustrating that I cannot remember the parent who has got it for her child. Simon
Guest guest
Hi Simon, Melatonin is great for getting to sleep, but not for staying asleep. I'll have a chat with a pediatric sleep specialist at the end of this month in Australia, and will get her input on this. Tim S.
