Guest guest
I have heard several rumors about a state wide protocol coming to Texas. Is there any one that knows more about this matter? I have been in EMS for 25 years and 16 of them as a paramedic. I have served under Medical Direction of some of the best (Dr. Bledsoe, Dr. , Dr. Yamada, Dr. and Dr. Suter ) and more, each one of them great in their owe way. From urban to rural each medical control looks at their unique system. I would hate for the personal touch to be lost. So will some one tell me this is just that a rumor. Guest guest
Well if you were a member of the TAA and were at the conference at South Padre Island a few months back you would have heard Maxie Bishop speak to the members present about many issues facing EMS in Texas today. That was one of the subjects and I will only say you should have been there. I am sure Maxie will repeat his comments here shortly on the subject. To find out what you are missing and not supporting through the TAA I would recommend going to their website and also talking to one of the board members. Guest guest
OK I am not sure I think that the slam was the right response and I will admit I was not at the TAA thing either (although the owner of the company I work for was). As far as the question at hand is concerned I have not heard this happening and to be honest I don't see how it can work. There are fundamental things that we all need to have in our trucks BUT there are also some case specific things based on the region and type of calls you respond to. ie. A service with a 30 min transport to a hospital from a beach town might consider carrying meat tenderizer in the truck with the protocol appropriate for its use while a paramedic in the panhandle would not even think they would ever need to look at a jelly fish attack. How often is a medic in Brownsville going to be treating a frostbite patient. Our state is too diverse and with too many isolated problems to think that a " statewide " system would work out. Maybe regional but not state. Then too I may not know what I am talking about I am still a young pup with only 23 yrs in the the profession Terrell Fred Wilkins - Matagorda County EMS wrote: Well if you were a member of the TAA and were at the conference at South Padre Island a few months back you would have heard Maxie Bishop speak to the members present about many issues facing EMS in Texas today. Guest guest
The Rumors you have heard of a statewide Protocol is NOT true, However the Disaster Task Force is looking at Altered Standards of care during a disaster. Guest guest
I was waiting for the horses mouth (Thanks Maxie). The thing that has most impressed me as a non-Texan and as a Provider from what some might call a " Mother May I " state is the flexibly that Texas gives it's services by way of the control that a Services Medical Director has. I'd hate to see that change for any reason. Louis N, Molino, Sr. LNM from Baku, Azerbaijan Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T Re: The Great State of Texas EMS! Guest guest
Thank you for that clarification. It does not seem like a plan that would work out. Oh and I do apologize for not being on CC for the TAA meeting it is just that most of us are a bit further away from CC than Bay City and we do have service areas that need to be covered. And I to would like to chime my praise for being fortunate enough to work in a state that our leader is so openly available to help keep the talk down to at least a dull roar. It is part of what makes us the best. maxifire@... wrote: The Rumors you have heard of a statewide Protocol is NOT true, However the Disaster Task Force is looking at Altered Standards of care during a disaster.
