Guest guest
SANDUSKY, OK-Bucky Hyles of Bayhead recently graduated from Saint 's paramedic program. But, much to his dismay, he could not find EMS work in the greater Sandusky area. Determined to continue with his career endeavors Hyles contacted the EMS service in Marblehead. Although a job was not open in Marblehead, they agreed to let Hyles work as a paramedic as long as he paid the department $350 to cover insurance liability costs. Hyles stated, " I love working on the peninsula but we only run about 2 calls a week. I was hoping to be busier so that I can hone my skills. " Marblehead EMS Chief Bill Baker said, " I think Bucky will be a pretty good paramedic. We had a really sad call last week. A tourist from Lima fell and broke her hip. It was angulated and she was in severe pain. Bucky took control of the situation and treated her like an old pro. If he can do good with major trauma like that he will do fine with the more mundane stuff. " Hyles has always dreamed of being a paramedic. His mother, Lorraine , said, " Bucky started watching Rescue 911 when he was two-years-old. He was a little confused as to why Captain Kirk from Star Trek came all the way to earth to host Rescue 911. I guess that is to be expected because for years he thought rabbits clucked like chickens. That Cadigan's Easter Egg commercial on television where the bunnies clucked like chickens really threw him for a loop. Anyway, it is good to see your children overcome such problems as dyslexia and fulfill their dreams. " Hyles has put in applications to numerous EMS agencies along the lake front. He is not sure how much longer he can pay to work. His savings account is low and all he has to live on is money from a lawsuit settlement three years ago. He is still living with his mom and driving a 1977 Chevrolet Vega that has over 200,000 miles. Hyles said, " I am confident I can find a job that pays. Even it is a non-emergency service that pays minimum wage that will be better than nothing. Hyles
