Guest guest
The crew members are okay according to our news here. This is not the same Air Evac that serves in the Texas communities. The area they went down is west of Flagstaff. Joanna Burgan You only start learning after you think you know it all! **************Gas prices getting you down? Guest guest
We must be using different definitions of " hurt " . In regard to the Arizona PHI crash (according to the AP): Paramedic in critical condition (required emergency surgery) Nurse in serious condition. Pilot in good condition. Interestingly, motorcycle victim they were going after transported in GO CONDITION. At what point will we say enough is enough. Guest guest
My " inside " information is that the medic has a " shattered pelvis " and was ejected from the ship. Nurse has multiple internal injuries. Pilot treated and released. Apparently there was a " brown out " on approach, and the ship hit the ground hard, rose up again, and hit hard again. Guest guest
A " brown-out " is when the helicopter is landing on dirt, and the rotor wash stirs up a " dust storm " as it approaches the ground, leading to the pilot not being able to tell how far he is from the ground. So he's in a dust storm, and unless he can pull up and get out of it, the ship will be apt to have a hard landing. Guest guest
Brown out occurs when blowing dust/dirt obscures the pilot's vision. This can cause spatial disorientation and its very easy to for the aircraft to drift from the approach path. Several things can result, most are bad. First is a hard landing. That's a landing that is so forceful that the machine is damaged. The impact can result in the blades flexing down and cutting off the tail boom. This will cause the helicopter to spin out of control. The other thing that can occur with lateral drift is the landing gear can contact the ground and cause the helicopter to pivot about that point in a condition known as dynamic roll over. The machine will literally roll about the pivot point, the blades will contact the ground and the aircraft will be severely damaged if not destroyed. The energy contained in the rotor blades is phenomenal. When they start coming apart, nothing is safe for a wide area. Hope this helps explain things. Guest guest
Guess this is why they request we wet down the L/Z's before the helicopters arrival. Wonder where the FD was? Jim<
Guest guest
From the condition of the ship as shown in the pictures, it is a miracle that anyone survived. BTW, the information I am getting is that there was no reason to have called for air in the first place. The patient was grounded and is doing fine, far better than the flight medic and nurse. Nurse suffered fractures of the vertebrae plus other injuries. Medic has a " shattered " pelvis. Guest guest
Could that be because the pilot had the only “crash-rated†seat? I’m not sure if it was that way in this particular ship, but I know it was that way in some other ones I’ve seen. Never made much sense to me. Lt. Steve Lemming, A.A.S., L.P.
