Guest guest
For all of you who might be in the market for stainless steel cookware I have both a recommendation and a caveat about Martha Everyday cookware, and stainless steel cookware in general. If it has handles that are riveted on make sure that the rivets are stainless steel. I bought a set of Martha Everyday stainless steel cookware from K-Martha about 6 weeks ago. When I used my 8 qt stock pot for the first time for a long, slow, low temperature simmer the rivet heads turned into little balls of corrosion, and turned out to be made of aluminum. I did the customer " service " runaround with Martha Living and K-Martha, which did not make me happy. K-Martha told me they'd look into my problem and get back to me. Well, it's been a month and they've -=*FINALLY*=- gotten back to me. It seems that the first manufacturer they had for the stuff didn't have a source for stainless steel rivets, so they used aluminum ones. *Very Bad Idea!* Now they have a manufacturer that does have a source for stainless steel rivets. The bottom line? They're going to replace my set with one that has stainless steel rivets. I'm happy with the resolution, but I still don't think it should have taken a month to get to it. So I can once again recommend Martha Everyday stainless steel cookware from K-Mart as the best quality for the lowest price of any stainless steel cookware I've looked at, with the caveat that you should make sure you get a set that has _stainless steel_ rivets. As far as I'm aware, the entire Everyday line is made in China. Also, I'd recommend the 3 star line over the 5 star line, because the aluminum cores are sealed. The 3 star line is made with aluminum cores in the bases only, and the walls of the pots are just stainless steel sheet. The 5 star line is made of a stainless steel over aluminum sandwich for the entire pot, which is not sealed at the edges, and would probably corrode if you did something like leave it submerged in a sinkful of water overnight. I have no experience with enamelware, so I don't have a good answer for you. I can't see why it _wouldn't_ be okay. IIRC the base for enamelware is usually mild steel, so even if the enamel got chipped it should be okay. AP -- Aviation is more than a hobby. It is more than a job. It is more than a career. Guest guest
I just looked online and I noticed that it is 18/10 gauge. I thought 18/8 was the preferred gauge for cooking and 18/10 was a slightly lower quality than 18/8 - am I mixed up? Or is the difference slight enough to warrant getting it for such a good price? ~ Carma ~ " Self-reliance is the antidote to institutional stupidity.
