Guest guest Posted July 7, 2011 Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 Holy bad week batman, So on Saturday at the grocery store my phone rang. I was expecting a call so of course I tried to answer. The touch screen stopped responding. 5 min later it turned blue and died. The phone is through my work (big mistake). I ported my number that I have had for at least 12 years so I could keep it when I went on my works plan. I have about 2,000 personal business cards with that number printed on them. Its my number for hells sake! But I haven't had a reliable phone in a year since my work switched to sprint. I've been through 5 Android phones. I call nearly weekly for service, and every time it has been a well-known factory defect in the phone. This time, on Sat, when it went out I had enough. I asked them to take me off their account, that I would get my own phone. For some reason, this caused world war 3 even though i was very nice about it. For the entire week I have been fighting with them to give me my number back. As a result - I haven't had a phone at all all week. Add to that that I have had really bad migraines since I was 9. I had them under control for the past 5 years but due to some changes I've made recently in my medication and such, they are back withe a vengence. I know they are biochemical, but I have been puking my head off for the past 3 days. Its funny because I can function, I just can't move, talk, be in bright lights or be out of reach of a barf bag. Soooo, i've missed work for most of the day for 3 days. And my phone messages are being forwarded to my voice mail at work - which I can't check because I have no phone!!! The phone sales people worked it out so that I can be released from their contract on Sunday - yeah 3 more days, no phone. So then I asked our phone saleslady very nicely if there were any options for me to have a phone to get me by until Sunday. She said sure, run over to the store and they will let you borrow one. I had to wait for the vomiting to subside for at least 1/2 hour and I made a break for it, driving as fast as I could without making myself sick to get to the phone store (its sprint by the way). They treated me like a criminal - they don't loan phones, they have never heard of the phone sales lady and said I must have dropped the damn phone in a bucket of water for it to go blue screen of death ( I did not, I just tried to answer a call). None of that is true and I had to pay 200 bucks to get that phone originally- which has never worked - and they won't refund it. So then I tell my office manager and the saleslady that the sprint store doesnt know what I am talking about and treated me like a criminal and guess what - they both turn on me attacking me telling me that I am destroying their relationships and my ability to have a phone. I sent them both the saleslady's message instructing me to go to the sprint store - with the instructions in bold red and told them that I was very hurt that they would attack me when I was just following their freaking instructions!!! The saleslady doesn't really matter - I don't ever need to speak to her again if I drop the company plan. I actually suspect she attacked me because I want out of her plan and its her job to sell it to me. But my office manager attacking me - - - she is my best friend! We go shopping together, lunch, hang out, gossip etc. And she blew up at me because I did exactly as I was told???? I " M THE ONE THAT HASN " T HAD A PHONE FOR A WEEK!!! I'm so pissed. I'm at home, working and i've been crying all morning. I just can't believe they would treat me like a criminal for doing what they said I should do. I'm getting an iPhone on Sunday when I'm released from my contract. i won't know until I get there to buy it if I can keep my number, my office manager will not give me the info I need to release the number. I'm so hurt - plus I'm sick and my ability to do my job depends entirely on having access to a freaking telephone!! Its like they cut off my right arm and beat me over the head with it while it was still spurting blood. This probably sounds like kind of a silly thing to get upset over, but I've been through this 5 times. Each time they gave me a new phone. Now on number 5 I'm done, I'd rather pay for it, have control, have what I want, get service when I want without the hassels of having no info on the corporate account, and be able to function than deal with any of those assholes. I also feel super betrayed - I have her instructions IN WRITING!!! Why would they attack me? My office manager has not responded to my message that she hurt me very much with her attack, Nor has she responded to my message that showed the saleslady's instructions, in bold and red. And the saleslady is ignoring me now too. If they think I'm going to cave and sign up for their stupid broken plan they can go to hell. Sorry for the rant and freak show, I've just had it. Guest guest Posted July 8, 2011 Report Share Posted July 8, 2011 Thanks guys - I wondered if I was over reacting as it was all going on - but my hell the things they were saying about me - like I don't know the proper prodedure to take care of a phone problem. Hello, I did exactly as instructed!!! Neither of them ever acknowledged that I was following their orders or that I had it in writing. Unbeleezable (remember that show ha ha) My office manager apologized to me and I accepted her apology- after I explained how hurt I was by the accusation. I also told her to take her phone service and shove it. The phone saleslady e-mailed and asked if she could come to my house to get the phone and dared to say she was having a hard time reaching me. Hello, I have responded to every single e-mail I have gotten, but she wanted to talk to me on the PHONE!!! DUH, she provided the damn phone and it broke for the 5th time, how am I supposed to speak to her without a freakin phone? I said to the saleslady " No thanks, after your attack this morning I no longer need or want your services. Good luck to you. " Of course the saleslady sent me an e-mail saying she was trying to help, wanted to clear the air etc etc etc. Um maybe she should try looking at what she said to me, apologizing for smearing my reputation behind my back for starters - not just ignore it and gloss over it. Can someone seriously send a rude e-mail about me behind my back to someone high up in my organization and expect me to ever forgive them? Duh, people forward things like that. And, if it were a paying client I would have to work it out with them - but we are paying HER for a service we can get anywhere! I'm pretty sure someone is going to say this thread is off topic. BUT I disagree and let me explain why. A few weeks ago my T pointed out to me that since I have been NC for over 8 years, it is important for me to skill build and learn how to deal with conflict in the present. My job has been to learn to be assertive, instead of just rolling over and taking it up the ass every time there is a conflict. I think this is a great lesson for all of us. Nada is what she is - but we have learned how to handle our other relationships based on that primary relationship. Now it is time to relearn how to function and stick up for ourselves!!! And she encourages me frequently to try to live in the present and deal with the now instead of dwelling on a relationship that I ended in my twenties. Does anyone else think it is funny that I'm willing to spend close to 100 bucks per month on a phone when I could have a free phone? Just so I can have control of my fate, my life and my communications? I think its kind of funny. Very typical of Girlscout - if she wants something done she does it herself. " You took care of yourself. " If having the phone under your own control and payment, etc., is going to provide you with peace of mind and a sense of control over your work, then NO you're not crazy, there is nothing wrong with you. It's something you need to know is taken care of to get your job done. And yes, we should all learn to handle conflict in a way that can resolve the conflict without letting people treat us like trash. Sometimes that could mean telling someone that they have lost your business. At the end of the day, who cares what some sales person thinks about you as long as you feel like you kept your integrity and didn't let someone take advantage of you? I say you did good. You recognized that you needed something, and it was a necessity. So you determined that you couldn't rely on someone else to provide it, and took control of the situation. I'm getting a lOOOOOOT better at it though. Practice practice practice. Another thing that helps me is I evaluate whether standing up for myself is going to destroy a relationship. And then the next question I ask is whether that relationship is more important to me than my integrity. Usually the answer is to stick up for myself! I tend to be more cautious when it is a work-related relationship - but even then, do I really want to waste my time and talent on someone who doesn't treat me like I am important and my feelings count - - wow, therapy has brought me a long, long way. After talking to my boyfrienrd last night, I actually think the sprint corporate saleswoman is stirring up most of the shit. . . So anyway to recap (and I can't believe the drama around this simple process), on Saturday almost 2 weeks ago, my android phone, provided by my work went out for the 5th time. I've had 5 replacements in less than a year. I've never liked the androids (and I " ve tried them all ) because if I get into an important conversation it will mute, hang up or put the call on speaker within 5 min of the call starting. The first 2 that I had hung up every single time I moved. And then they just keep going out every time. . . So anyway, after being insulted by the saleslady and my office manager and my coworkers and getting no help to resolve the problem, I demanded to port my number out of their system. I've had the number since the late 90s, and its my num not the work num. I " ported the number " on Sunday, after I negotiaed out of the contract. But guess what? The number didn't port and after waiting for my office manager overnight and then for 5 more hours I started a new number. It didn't port because she refused to give me the access code, and someone between her and the sales staff at the phone store made a mistake. It was humiliated to try to explain to the staff that I wasn't allowed to have the code and they asked me if I was CIA. Seriously, 5 years working at that company - I can do a lot more damage to them if I wanted to (and I don't) than increasing their minutes or turning off their cell phones or adding roaming! Ok - for the new part - the phone saleslady came in yesterday and gave me a new phone (but same one I had before) with my original number on it. All my texts and Messages were on it from the weekend. So my office manager or whoever has been getting my calls for 4 days!!!! I was PISSSED. THe lady then insisted that we go outside so she could explain how nice she is, how it was all a misunderstanding etc etc etc. I call bullshit!!! I think she freaked when she lost me as a client and then tried to strong arm and manipulate me into staying. ed She said that now that the number didn't port I am locked into the company plan for another year. How does that even make sense? Not much that she said actually made sense to me.It doesn't really matter to me - the company can pay the termination fees and I don't give a shit. My concern now is that I have a new number, I've given it to the people I want to have it. I will never go back to their service plan. I don't want to revert to my old number after spending a ton of time diseminating my new one. But I'm worried that my work is going to keep my number and assign it to another staffer. So then my calls from my gynecologist and old friends etc will be answered by a co-worker. OH HELL NO I " M NOT HAVING THAT. So then the saleslady went and explained to my office manager (who finally came in at the end of the day) and told her that the number didn't port and explained the problem. My office manager came storming into my office, fully screaming that she was going to call Apple and ream the hell out of them that the number didn't port. She said she never got a message or anything. Funny because they called me after they left her a message and told me that they had done so as well as speaking to me about it before they called. . . She screamed that she didn't have time to talk about it right then but that she would catch me later - i explained i was teaching that night and couldn't wait for her. So now I have to deal with her freaking out and screaming today. Boyfriend and I practiced, and I'm going to tell her that if she raises her voice to me on the topic of the phone that I will leave, and end the conversation, and she will need to talk to me about it after she calms down. I'm just going to broken record that - because after everything I have been through over a stupid phone, including losing my number, contacts and not being able to talk to my T for almost 2 weeks, I have absolutely not interest or patience for her yelling at me. I know this is a long, boring and innane thread. There is absolutely no reason why there should be so much drama in just getting and keeping a phone. . . Thanks for bearing with me. Its been a horrible horrible experience, everyone blaming me, trying to control me, keeping secrets from me and refusing to let me have what is mine. . . I'm not excited for today. .. . Wish me luck with my boundary.
