They are called "EKGs" -- so as not to confuse the staff withother medical equipment--but you are definitely right, !My internists and other doctors have EKG machines right onthe premises--if it shows anything wrong, most insurances willpay to have you medi-vacced by helicopter to the nearest reliablehospital.Hoping for the best for any of you with any possible heart problems, especially our Fearless Leader, Sharon,nTo: MSersLife Sent: Fri, July 2, 2010 11:44:19 PMSubject: Re: my doctor problems--what do you think?

Over here, they'd have you hooked up to an ECG,

Hi , it could also be a regional thing. When I lived in Florida, I worked as an LPN at a hospital called Twin Cities Hospital. The hospital was owned by Hospital Corporation of America, or HCA. It was a long time ago. But, the hospital staff all referred to EKG machines as ECG machines. ECG for ElectroCardioGram makes more sense than EKG. Even many of the physicians who were former military doctors referred to the EKG as ECG. Up here where I live in WA, our hospital uses EKG, exclusively. My theory is that in the written physician orders, some doctors write so fast that their Cs can often be mistaken for Es. It would be up to the nurse to question the order is she or he couldn't make it out. An EEG is certainly a different test from an ECG. A scribbled K is rarely mistaken for a

scribble E. Honestly, though, I think good handwriting should be a required skill for all doctors to have.Donna in WASubject: Re: my doctor problems--what do you think?/ plenty! To: MSersLife Date: Saturday, July 3, 2010, 12:31 PM
