Guest guest
Hi my name is and if you're joined at other diabetes groups you might see my intro posts there. I'm not diabetic but my mom is and I'm on a mission to get my mom resources by Christmas. To be honest, I know absolutely nothing about diabetes or type 2 (the type she has). My mom has been diagnosed for about a year or a little bit more. She's always sick and isn't managing her diabetes. She just doesn't know anything about diabetes and has no recipes. My mission is to find titles of books about type 2, recipes and cookbooks titles that are aimed towards diabetics and links that provide this information (especially recipe sites). I will be buying her a crock pot and a diabetic slow cooker cookbook, a few cookbooks that are general (or maybe one that has quick recipes) along with a diabetic recipe software and mastercook with recipes formated from diabetes recipe sites. She has promised that when she gets what I send her she will work on her diabetes. If anyone can help me out with this information I will be very grateful. Guest guest
, Think " low carb diet. " Many may disagree, but I find the easiest way to keep my bg at a good level is low carb. Laurie
Guest guest
Hi , I was in a similar situation. Its hard to do but your mother must take care of herself. . If there is a public library in her town she can check out books. There is the ADA, American Diabetes Association she can call. There is a ton of information out there. Every day she is not in control of her diabetes damage is being done to her body. She is making her diabetes your responsibility, its not and believe me from experience in hurts in the end. You will do your mothers work for her and she will learn nothing, and her illness will still be out of control. I have heard people blame there doctor but until you read and know about this illness you won't know what to look for in a doctor. I finally told my person that if they lost there feet or legs I would not take care of them because that was within there control. The one thing you can tell her is when she gets control she will have her life back. She will feel so much better that her work will be worth it and you will have your mother. Can you tell this subject gets me worked up? She can do this. Donna Hi my name is and if you're joined at other diabetes groups you might see my intro posts there. Guest guest
I don't want to sound ungrateful for your response but I guess I make it sound like she's not doing anything. She's working on herself she just doesn't have time to do much because she's constantly working and studying. She's working to get a position with good medical because she has no medical. My mom lives in Michigan and I live in Washington so I have no other way of helping her than this. I just need book tiles, recipe site links, so I can help her or I won't sleep at night. Guest guest
> >Hi , I am new to the group but your post caught my attention because you said your Mom lives in Michigan, which is where I am from. I am in northern Michigan, close to Traverse City. Is she close enough that I could help provide support for her ? My mother died a couple of years ago and lived in Arkansas ... she was also diabetic and died of kidney complications. I understand the frustration of being so far away. I think she would have lived longer if she could have been persuaded to move closer to one of us (my sisters or myself) and we could have encouraged her to take better care of herself. Let me know if there is anything I can do.
Guest guest
, thank you for telling me about the coupon for the glucose thing. I filled it out for my mom and am mailing it to her. > >
Guest guest
You're very welcome. The test strips are kind of expensive, so until she gets medical insurance that will be added to the cost of any meds she's on. But it is important to get in the habit of testing at least twice a day. Good luck to you and your Mom. Oh, I also forgot to give you the website for the ADA. It is diabetes.org -- it has a lots of info, including info for those new to diabetes. Joy makuahinepinao@...> wrote: , thank you for telling me about the coupon for the glucose thing.
