Guest guest
Just got back from the specialist and he has doubled the dosage on my metoprolol from 50 mg 2 x daily to 100mg 2 x daily. I am hoping this will help my heart rate as it was in the 140`s this morning. Anyone on a similar dosage with success....Thanks...n
Guest guest
n, That's quite a step up in dosage. My understanding is that standard protocol calls for a bump up to 75 mg for a while, then to 100 2X daily. But maybe because of your rapid heart rate, the specialist wanted to bypass conservative treatment options. I kind of wish I was on 100 Mg twice daily (I now take 50 mg X 2), but I've always been curious about any physical effects from this higher dosage (such as tiredness). Let us know how 100 mg affects your heart rate, and if you notice any side effects from the jump in beta blocker dosage. I wish I could have thrown in something about the heat of a thousand suns here, but I couldn't find the proper opportunity to do so. Guest guest
Hi n - when I was in afib down island, I was put on 200 mg atenelol (similar) and .25 digoxin. This is the only time my afib rate has been sort of controlled, and I know it was not the atenelol, but the dig. Atenelol seems to keep my heart slow while in NSR, but nothing much works while I'm in an afib event. Hopefully this will slow you down a bit... 140 is no fun. Guest guest
Hi n, In the past, I was on metoprolol 100mgx2 times a day (along with sotalol). Those two together, slowed me down a lot and gave me a decent rhythym most of the time. My pulse was similar to yours prior to that combo. I was never on metoprolol as a solo drug - so, hard to compare. Hope it slows you down.
