Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone else here has diabetes? I was diagnosed in April 2006 and breast cancer surgery was Dec 5th 2006. I am about to start chemo and I will be one steroids. I know steroids can cause weight gain and your blood sugars to go up. Anyone have some tips to deal with this? I would hate to gain back the 35 pounds I worked so hard to lose since April. I may ask my family doctor to write another RX to the dietition since I have not been there since June. Thabks! Guest guest
Hi Val, I've had diabetes for 36 years, I had my mastectomies 18 and 21 years ago. You're correct, steroids will raise your blood sugar. Are you on orals or insulin? That will make a difference in how you handle the rise in sugar level. With insulin (depending on what kind) you can go to a sliding scale, check with you endo. With orals, your doc might need to adjust. -- Angel (A.K.A. Mari) mfgershman@... Guest guest
Mari, I am on Metformin 500mg 3X a day. I have an appointment with my doctor a day before the the first chemo. I am going to bring it up to her as to what I need to do. Val > > Hi Val, > > I've had diabetes for 36 years, I had my mastectomies 18 and 21 > years ago.
