How interesting Akiba! I love this kind of family history--whether it is mine or someone else's. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects. I know that. And to elaborate, since it is Fitz- WITH a hyphen, it means "from the right side of the blanket" (in other words, a legitimate son), if you see it without a hyphen, it means bastard son (i.e. Fitzwilliam, Fitzgerald, Fitzwhatever)

My family does descend directly from , in this case the Conqueror (a.k.a. the bastard, not because of his birth, because of his actions) . I am entitled to the Family Crest and the Family tartan. There is also a Fitz- college in Cambridge.

So now you know

BTW I also have a Family Crest on the other side of my family (father), his comes from Berengario Jorda, who fought to gain the islands (Balearic) and was awarded the crest, which has two lions rampant above 3 melons. The lions were for his bravery in the fight and the melons because the area he captured had melon fields. My great-great-great-great grandmother was also the Countess of Onate, and you can still see her palace in Madrid (I believe it is now a government building) She lost her "royalty" when she married a commoner.

*sigh* so now you know. My ugly secret is exposed....

Actually, there IS an ugly side to it. Acoma, the oldest inhabited city in the US, was subject to invasion by Spanish Conquistadores, chief among them was one who also sported the surname Jorda. *sigh*

OK. So it's actually been winter for a while here. But the last couple of days it's been snowing constantly, and today it took a short break to reveal a city buried under snow... See attached pictures.

Ah the Conqueror - the man with the Conk - 1066 AD

sorry the Brits brainwashed me God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.
