Guest guest
I think it was more the fact that the eclipse was on the winter solstice (and I'm so happy that the days will be getting longer and longer now..) that made me want to see it more than anything else. You know sort of like all those things that our parents and grandparents possibly even g. grandparents.. got to see while they were growing, or still amongst the living type thing.. like the first electric light.. the telephone.. first moving pictures, the silent movies... This would have been something they hadn't had a chance to see... being as the last was three hundred and eighty some odd years ago.. at least I was there to see the first moon walk.. Guest guest
Oh, I agree. What an event, huh? Two of my grandkids watched it all the way through. Yesterday I printed off info and photos (of this historic eclipse) from the internet for the grandkids to keep. My dad was born in 1900. The "school bus" that picked him up was a horse-drawn wagon. Guest guest
Yup.. terrific event, and your grandchildren now have something they get to tell their grandchildren and possibly great grandchildren about, years from now.. and getting those printouts for them... well that's another thing they'll also have to put in front of their future offspring.. like the school bus was for your father, they'll be able to show the offspring what they did in the "dark ages" for antique computer items. Heck, my computer experience started with a Commodore Vic20 -- the very first personal computer (PC) -- and when it first arrived on the market, the only thing available for storage was a tape drive, which were tremendously expensive.. otherwise if you want to make a little white dot bounce across screen one had to type in something like 150 lines of BASIC code.. with commands like "Peek" and "Poke".. Then, of course, IBM was the first to release the actual more user friendly PC.. and they only cost a couple thousand dollars! Hmmm.. possibly a good research topic for some type of written paper for the homeschooling? The History of Personal Computers.. and how it's evolution actually helped make homeschooling a possibility. I guess that some of the things we've seen or experienced in our lifetime have been pretty amazing as well.. Yup.. once I start to think about, just, technology alone, it's been a pretty amazing life experience.. My first "portable" weighed at least 50 pounds, couldn't really call it a laptop, because it wasn't something you could actually sit in your lap, but was the prelude to today's laptop.. and my first "removable" hard drive was a Bernoulli Box.. the disks held about 10 - 20 meg of information and the hard "floppy" removable disks were 8 1/2 by 11 in size.. We've definitely "Come a Long Way Baby!" LOL HUGS |)onna Oh, I agree. What an event, huh? Two of my grandkids watched it all the way through.
