Guest guest
When I was expecting my first child, my mother-in-law tried to teach me to knit. She was the most accomplished knitter I have ever seen and her work was exceptional. I worked and worked on the piece I was "making". I proudly showed it to my mil and she told me perhaps I should stick with crochet. She said I had stitches she had never seen before! lol One of the problems could have been that I am left handed and she was right handed. So you learned from a book? wow. Knitting seems so danged complicated to me.hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
lol, Sharon. I'm sure that had a lot to do with it--her being righty and you lefty. It's funny...I always had imagined you would be left-handed, and yet, I have no idea how or why I'd think that! rofl.love ya, KateTo: MSersLife Sent: Mon, December 20, 2010 7:02:05 PMSubject: knitting.... Guest guest
That's not the problem, Sharon, I do not think. Guest guest
The knitting part isn't hard at all.. provided all you want is a straight "knit".. don't ask me to purl or any of the other stitches involved.. And your MIL was right.. Crochet is much much easier.. that I could do while watching television.. by feel.. can't do that anymore.. no feeling, at least not enough feeling, in the fingertips to do it that way.. Guest guest
My grandma tried to teach me to crochet and sew and all that when I was 6 or 7... couldn't pay attention long enough then to learn ( there were trees to climb, and chickens to chase, and new kittens to look for in the feed shed, and and and...) She never learned to read patterns, but she could copy anything she could look at... I taught myself to crochet a long time before knitting, though, knitting looked too hard! I probably still do lots of it wrong, but if you get a usable item when you're done, that's the idea, right? ;-D BTW, I managed to make a match for one of my first 2 mittens last night, so now I have a pair! :-D :-D :-D in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... Guest guest
I've never been able to knit. I DID know how to crochet, made a beautiful blanket for Robbin when he was 1 year old, he still sleeps under it every night (he had it with him when he was at Cathy's, so he still used it every night), the funny thing, I don't REMEMBER how to crochet! I made it and promptly forgot how! I'd LOVE to find someone who could teach me again! ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Reporting in- Knitted my first 2 mittens ever yesterday! Guest guest
Maybe try a " crochet for dummies " book from the local library? Or there are a bazillion sites online nowadays, with piccies... in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... Guest guest
Nope, tried looking online before, I can't read the instructions...well, I CAN *read* them, but don't ever seem to be able to follow 2-d drawings. Maybe I'll look on youtube. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Reporting in-Knitted my first 2 mittens ever yesterday!I did NOT knit a PAIR of mittens, because they are not the same size. ;-DToday, I will try and match them...More later..Running way behind already in WYPractical Blackwork Designshttp://practicalblackwork.comhttp://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com "You get a wonderful view from the point of no return..."------------------------------------
Guest guest
I haven't crocheted in years so I'm not sure I can remember either:) For so many years I suffered with some pretty severe carpal tunnel pain that I gave up a lot of things. I finally had surgery bilaterally but never took up crochet again. I hope someone can help you remember!hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Alright on the match !!! My grandmother did teach me how to crochet, but no patterns involved.. those came later in life.. funny thing is.. I didn't pull through the same way she did, and the backs off my pieces looked so different from hers.. pretty much looks different than other people's too.. BUT I did win a blue ribbon at the grange fair (sort of like a county fair, except for local farmers in the township type locale) for my "original" design of an afghan for Earl.. He whined and whined that everybody that we knew got their very own "baby" afghan when they were babies.. but he didn't (I already had TWO from his brother, so didn't see a need to make him one of his own.. LOL).. So I picked four Vivid colors, and using an afghan hook created a sort of patchwork afghan for him.. adult sized "baby" afghan.. LOL.. Not sure that he still has it, but I'll bet if he dug around his bedroom at his dad's house, he might find it.. But he never did like it as much as the ripple stitch I made for my mother to match her couch.. It's 36 or 37 years old now.. and he uses it to cover up with to sleep while he's here.. forget comforters or blankets.. he wants the afghan.. AND remembers to pick it up in the morning and put it up high in his bedroom here, so the dogs can't steal it from him, or pee on it!.. LOL HUGS |)onna My grandma tried to teach me to crochet and sew and all that when I was 6 or 7... couldn't pay attention long enough then to learn ( there were trees to climb, and chickens to chase, and new kittens to look for in the feed shed, and and and...)
