San Jacinto Community College in Houston and Pasadena, Texas, has posted

three full-time faculty positions in the Emergency Medical Technology

program at its North and Central Campuses. One position will be primary

at SJC-North Campus EMT; two positions will be located at the

SJC-Central Campus EMT; positions will close August 11, 2008, with

expected candidate availability for the fall 2008 semester. Full

*Minimum Qualifications:* Current Texas Department of State Health

Services certification as EMS-Instructor and EMT-Paramedic

certification/licensure required. Must possess a minimum of an

Associate's Degree. Three years experience with an active Emergency

Medical Services system required. Must meet criteria for approval by the

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Must meet all minimum

qualifications as defined by the Texas Department of State Health

Services' functional job description for the EMT-Paramedic.

*Preferred Qualifications:* Preference will be given to candidate

possessing certified CPR Instructor, ACLS Instructor, ITLS Instructor

and/or PALS Instructor. Preference will be given to candidates

possessing a Baccalaureate or Master's Degree with EMS teaching

experience.

Instructor will teach a 15-16 semester credit hour load assignment.

Teaching may include lecture/laboratory/practicum. Faculty must be

willing to complete training in local EMS skills examination system.

Faculty will function as a team member including functioning on

departmental/campus-wide/district-wide committees to develop curriculum,

syllabi, course outlines, textbook adoptions, etc. Faculty member will

participate in departmental long-ranging planning (fiscal budgeting,

recruiting, and retention initiatives, etc.) and other duties as

assigned by campus administration. Faculty will be expected to maintain

currency in emergency medical science through professional development

opportunities.

San Jacinto Community College EMT program is a CoAEMSP and CAAHEP

nationally accredited EMT-Paramedic training program which affiliates

with over 20 area emergency medical services, 12 major hospitals

including two level-one trauma centers and is affiliated with the

University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Department of Emergency

Medicine for physician medical direction and graduate competency and

quality assurance. The program trains between 200-300 students each

semester including credit and non-credit civilian, fire academy cadets

and area industry emergency medical response teams. The program offers

Certificate of Technology as well as Associate of Applied Science degree

programs in EMT.

San Jacinto College District recently passed a $295 million dollar bond

election which will facilitate, among many facility improvements, new

Health Science and Science facilities at the North Campus as well as an

additional 40,000 square feet of classroom and lab expansion to its

Central Campus Health Science Center. Among the facility upgrades will

be new classroom and lab facilities at both campuses in the EMT program

including state-of-the-art patient care simulation labs. San Jacinto
