Guest guest
>>> This list is not about political correctness. It is about folks saying what is on there mind. <<< Henry, I checked with the TEXASEMS-L Acceptable Use Guidelines and was astonished (hyperbole) to find out that that absolute openness is not allowed. The list moderators can hold individuals responsible for the words they choose. Gene (like all of us) may have the " freedom " to say anything he chooses but he must also be willing to accept the consequences of exercising that freedom. Exercising political correctness prevents an individual from saying something because it MIGHT be offensive to another. Exercising cultural competence prevents the individual from saying something because IT IS offensive. We should all strive to achieve cultural competence. I do not say many things to my students, my colleagues and the public. I do not refrain from saying those things because someone might be offended. I exercise restraint because they ARE offensive. Whether I agree (or anyone else agrees) that Gene's comment was offensive or not is irrelevant. Some people found Gene's words to be hurtful and offensive. Gene is not a stupid man. He knows the power of the words he chooses. Now, let him accept the consequences of his choice. Guest guest
Kenny, Your are absolutely right. I never said it would be a free ride on the things you say and do. I just said he has the right to say them. By the way the list would be doing me a favor if they would take me off. I have tried to get off my self but it is like a bad drug habit, I keep coming back. I am afraid I might miss something important. Cute huh? Way to many people take themselves much to serious here. By the way I by no means try to fight Genes battles, heck (note I said heck and not hell, my good) I sometimes find him offensive for one reason or another. I just don't think it is necessary to be the one to point it out on the server. If I feel intense about something he says, I usually go direct to him. My previous post was my thoughts not trying to correct the sender I replied to. Henry Offensive Remarks >>> This list is not about political correctness. Guest guest
Thanks Henry. I also do not have significant issues with Gene and rather enjoy him at times. I consider myself to be one of his well-wishers, in that I wish him no specific harm. Kenny
