Guest guest
I recently transported a patient from the airport to her residence that was acompanied by a foriegn doctor. Our protocall doesn't address this. The doc wanted to give some medicine that I have never heard of and me to remove her foley. I talked him out of it and suggested the patient follow up with her primarary. My question is does he still have patient care? If he had been adament about the care I obviously would have called medical director. Any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone
Guest guest
The issue of his ethnicity or citizenship is of little importance. We all (physicians) carry ID cards from the Texas Medical Board that say we are licensed in Texas (we also have DEA and Texas DPS cards). Ask for this. If it is not provided, contact medical control or use your protocols for an intervener physician. I have had many people in my EMS days identify themselves as " doctor so and so " only to later learn they were a dentist, podiatrist, chiropractor, PhD, or, in one case, a doctor of theology. I arrived once on scene in far west Fort Worth to a horrible accident. In this case a doctor (not of North American descent) had placed a suture through the tongue of a patient and was pulling on it to " keep the airway open. " He wanted us to pull on the suture and transport. Needless to say, we were questioned at the ED.
