Guest guest
Hi everyone, As you all know that we are using gcmaf for my son. I have been maintaining a strict log of what he is getting and what symptoms I observe every day. I have come to a conclusion that every time I give him gcmaf shot, he is miserable at least for 48-72 hours. He gets crying episodes, tantrums, complains of chest pain, tummy pain, becomes sound sensitive, aggressive, has some low grade fever maybe for a couple of hours, and seems like having mood swings, increased stimming, sometimes petechial rash which goes away in a couple of days. From what I understand, gcmaf is helping vitamin D function better and at the same time helping his immune system namely macrophages do a better job at ridding viruses. So could it be viral die off or maybe immune reconstitution? I personally feel like it is die off. What helps is charcoal, motrin and sometimes just waiting for 2-3 days to pass. Now my question is for expert moms who have used valtrex or other antiviral treatments, do you agree that my son's symptoms sound like viral die off? I do see some improvements in his ability to answer questions and he acts more responsible and transitions from one activity to another smoothly once the bad days are over. If anyone has any ideas what I can use other than activated charcoal, ibuprofen and epsom salt foot soaks(can't tolerate baths) to deal with his die off symptoms, please share. My son is currently dealing with flu which is much better now. I have taken out a lot of factors which were confusing me as to what was going on like the listening therapy, eggs (high in leucine and Alberta suggested Leucine meltdowns). And he is not behaving like a clostridia kid as there is no ocd and anxiety. He mostly points to his left chest for pain exactly at the heart level but the pain seems more superficial. He also discovered his nipples and keeps pulling his shirt away from skin to either look at them and is more focused on the left one. He called them booboos but I told him that they are a type of belly button so now he shows me the nipples and says belly button. Sometimes says there is pain in them especially in the left one and sometimes laughs at them. I am sure there is pain as this has been going on for a while and he asks us to rub on the left nipple. There is no obvious rash. Please advise as to what could be going on. Thanks is
Guest guest
Hi is, We have not done Valtrex - kind of funny considering how long I have been on this list. I know very, very little about gcmaf. However, I feel bad for your son and thought I would throw out some of the things that immediately popped into my head. I wonder if gcmaf could be affecting ammonia levels, bh4/serotonin, histamine,or nerve regeneration/ " awakening " . Some of these symptoms (like aggression, stimming, etc) are sometimes caused by pain, ammonia, a lack of serotonin, or high histamine. I wondered with the new discovery of his body if nerves were " awakening " and causing discomfort or something (kind of like when your foot has fallen asleep and then " awakens " ), so I did a quick google search for gcmaf and nerves and found a discussion about gcmaf side effects on a CFS site. I have not read the whole thread, but saw some people referring to pain like burning mouth and a person's back being " on fire. " You might find some insight in that thread about what your son may be experiencing...I don't know. http://forums.phoenixrising.me/showthread.php?12976-Gcmaf-reactions-and-side-eff\ ects/page2 I also searched regarding the histamine factor and found this website about gcmaf. Apparently it can cause a histamine response in some people, possibly with a headache. It can also cause tiredness, fatigue, increased cytokine activity, and symptoms of fever. The website is directed toward people using it for cancer or HIV, so they say there aren't really many side effects, but I would guess it would be different for our kids. http://www.gcmaf.eu/info/index.php?option=com_content & view=article & id=109 & Itemid\ =50 The increased cytokines can cause " sickness behavior " , which includes increased pain sensitivity: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12615196 They can also cause aggression: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0889159106002492 Anyway, I don't know if any of this is helpful to spark your own thoughts, but I hope you can figure it out! Have you talked to his doctor? Has he seen these side effects in anyone else? Cathy > > Hi everyone, > As you all know that we are using gcmaf for my son. Guest guest
Thank you ! You're so sweet! Thanks for finding all those links for me. I have been doing the same search myself and have been visiting the cfs, hiv and cancer sites. I have read some people get pain around the liver, back or other places. I just wanted to see if parents who have used antivirals had similar experiences and if they are related to viral die off. You kind of confirmed my suspicion of serotonin/bh4 issue. I had read on another forum that some people were taking supps to help in that area also while on gcmaf. Other people take antihistamines, both H1 and H2 blockers. Coincidentally, my son has a flu and his cough was just getting worse. I was using a homeopathic remedy and other home remedies as I wanted to stay away from meds. But finally, I did a search on antihistamines while on gcmaf and I found that some doctors actually recommend antihistamines with it. So I went ahead and used benadryl at night. Can't say if it helped or not. But last time he was on the current dose of gcmaf, he had worse mood swings and screaming tantrums and this time it seems more like depression and very frequent crying and he is complaining of pain. I have discussed the symptoms with the dan but till the last appointment, we were also dealing with clostridia and all these symptoms were attributed to clostridia. But now that the ocd, anxiety and fear have almost gone, I feel all this is related to gcmaf and the timing of symptoms confirms that as well. , if you have some information on BH4, please share. My son definitely needs some form of help with the serotonin but he did'nt do great on 5tp and tryptophan can lead to neurotoxin production. Let me know if there are any tests that can be done. I am going to explore all the links you sent me and I am really grateful to you for doing the search for me. I may find something that I had overlooked. Thanks again. is > > > > Hi everyone, > > As you all know that we are using gcmaf for my son. I have been maintaining a strict log of what he is getting and what symptoms I observe every day. Guest guest
I was on gcmaf (adult with CFIDS). I quit on my doctor's advice because of the inflammation...first it was achey legs then I took a break, dropped the dose, went back on, got brain inflammation which was bad. Doctor (a professor for what it's worth) said the gcmaf was activating macrophages abnormally cos of my coinfections. (I suspect I have many. I know I have ebv & h pylori.) he said to work on coinfections and come back to gcmaf later. Another CFS doctor says he sees a lot of cytokine storms..and patients with low gsh and poor adrenal function seem to regress after intial improvement. he has a long list of suggested therapies to take the edge off...(email me off list for more info.) Not knocking Gcmaf. Some seem to do fabulously well. I personally know 2 doing pretty well...but not me alas. Hope to circle back to it later. Cheers L. > > > > Hi everyone, > > As you all know that we are using gcmaf for my son. I have been maintaining a strict log of what he is getting and what symptoms I observe every day. Guest guest
drbradstreet.org always has positive stories on GcMAF, he also gives some insight on what he thinks may be happening. I'm not sure we know exactly what it is doing to ASD kids > > Hi everyone, > As you all know that we are using gcmaf for my son.
