Guest guest
Have we ever come a long way! Think of cell phones. Did you ever, ever (when you were a kid) imagine that everyone would be toting around a phone? lol Computers are amazing. Information is so INSTANT! When I was in high school and doing term papers I would be in the library for hours and hours searching through research books and the card catalog was my friend:)hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Heck, my computer experience started with a Commodore Vic20 -- the very first personal computer (PC) -- and when it first arrived on the market, the only thing available for storage was a tape drive, which were tremendously expensive.. otherwise if you want to make a little white dot bounce across screen one had to type in something like 150 lines of BASIC code.. with commands like "Peek" and "Poke".. Then, of course, IBM was the first to release the actual more user friendly PC.. and they only cost a couple thousand dollars! Hmmm.. possibly a good research topic for some type of written paper for the homeschooling? The History of Personal Computers.. and how it's evolution actually helped make homeschooling a possibility. I guess that some of the things we've seen or experienced in our lifetime have been pretty amazing as well.. Yup.. once I start to think about, just, technology alone, it's been a pretty amazing life experience.. My first "portable" weighed at least 50 pounds, couldn't really call it a laptop, because it wasn't something you could actually sit in your lap, but was the prelude to today's laptop.. and my first "removable" hard drive was a Bernoulli Box.. the disks held about 10 - 20 meg of information and the hard "floppy" removable disks were 8 1/2 by 11 in size.. We've definitely "Come a Long Way Baby!" LOL HUGS |)onna Oh, I agree. What an event, huh? Two of my grandkids watched it all the way through. Yesterday I printed off info and photos (of this historic eclipse) from the internet for the grandkids to keep. My dad was born in 1900. The "school bus" that picked him up was a horse-drawn wagon. Can you imagine? hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Well, nope.. never thunk the cell phone idea when I was using a tin can & string.. Genealogy was a super super expensive hobby, and yup.. a good grade paper required library access.. the stuff that came out of the encyclopedias I had at home was way way way outdated.. Magazines, except Field & Stream and Reader's Digest were non-existent at home.. And I have long ago forgotten the card catalog.. And I've been part of the internet, long before Dan Quayle invented it too.. back when a BBS (Bulletin Board Service) was a tremendous resource for information, and it was amazing that one could send "messages" around the world via those same BBS's.. And video games from "Space Invaders" (that I played for weeks until I could get the score to roll over) to EverQuest or Second Life.. Yeah, I think we've actually lived through tremendous times..
