Guest guest
Well, you gotta give it to the Swedish Feminist Party, they know how to get through in the media... This week is the traditional "politics week" in Almedalen, Sweden. All political parties are there trying to get their messages across, even more so as this is election year. It's not easy to get the media attention that they are all seeking, but the feminists found a way. Burning 100,000 SEK (13,000$), symbolizing the money women in Sweden are missing out on, because of the pay gap between men and women. Those 100,000 (or 13,000$) have already bought them several times more marketing than using them on advertising could ever come close to.I myself won't be voting for them. Not because I am anti-feminist or anti-women (which I am not), but because I am old fashioned enough to want one of the more traditional parties. I do hope, however, that they manage to get their issues on the political agenda, if by getting seats in the parliament or in any other way (they are very skilled lobbyists), because they do point to important things (such as the pay gap between men and women, for instance). And those who object that the money could have been used better would not have objected had the money been used for a traditional advertising campaign (the bigger parties spend several times that amount on free wine and cheese for those who gather on their meetings in Almedalen, how is that a worthier cause one might wonder...). Anyhow, just wanted to give you this link:http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/06/AR2010070601191.htmllove/RebPS. I know we are not supposed to discuss politics here, I think of this more as a smart marketing thing than as politics per se.
