National EMS Education Standards Communiqué #11

July 16, 2008

National EMS Education Standards

On behalf of the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE), the

National EMS Education Standards Project Team is pleased to present

Final Draft 1.0 of the National EMS Education Standards (the

Standards) for your review. Comments are being accepted until August

29, 2008, to identify any significant errors or omissions.

The first draft (Draft 1.0) of the Standards served as a starting

point for dialogue with the national EMS community and the second

draft (Draft 2.0) was based on the input received from the national

EMS community. The third draft (Draft 3.0) was based on additional

input from the national EMS community and from comments received

during the February 2008 National EMS Stakeholders meeting.

Final Draft 1.0 of the Standards for all four levels of EMS

personnel -- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical

Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT), and Paramedic - are available

at: www.nemses.org. We anticipate delivering a final draft to NHTSA

in September 2008.

Instructor Guidelines

The Project Team developed Instructional Guidelines (IG) to aid

instructors, EMS education programs, and publishers. Some sections

of the IG are complete and available for EMS community review and

comment. The remaining sections of IG that are still under revision

should be posted by no later than mid-August and the EMS community

will have an opportunity to provide comments on these revised

sections once they are posted.

Next Steps

The Project Team will:

• Revise any major errors or omissions in Final Draft 1.0 of the

Standards

• Depend on your feedback to improve the Instructional Guidelines

• Present final drafts of the Standards and IG to NHTSA in September

2008
