Guest guest
So, we read on the state's website that CPS reports could be made in person at the county office. But, the link to get the address for our county office wasn't working, so I called & explained why we wanted to go in person, due to having photos. They explained that reports have to be made over the phone & that if we did show up there they would just tell us to call the hotline. But, they gave me an email address which I was able to use to send the photos. This is not an easy thing to do. This is the 2nd time I've called on this woman for her neglect of my step kids. The squalor... oh dear god... I am attaching a couple of photos to give you an idea of what we're dealing with here. I have a feeling some of you here can absolutely relate as I know some of your FOO's homes were squalorus. ONe is of their mother's room with the nasty trash & empty beer cases on the floor. The other is my step daughter's room. Note the nasty rotting banana on the nasty mattress that they never put sheets on and is, well, f'ing nasty. Now, the post-horrible-stress shakes & freezing cold are hitting me. Going to go meditate to try & relax. Mia
Guest guest
Mia, good for you for doing this. I feel so awful for those children (I didn't see the photo you attached, btw; I don't know if it came through on the board). And I feel your shakes with you. God, what a terrible situation. Your husband must feel so helpless as well. You guys are heroes; good for you for fighting for these kids. Guest guest
Thanks Fiona. Yeah, not sure if they would come through on the board or not come to think of it. That's ok. I'm sure you've all seen a squalorous living condition before. If not, may I suggest the TV show " Hoarders " . (SHUDDER!!!!) Yeah, hubby is feeling pretty helpless as well. It shouldn't have to be the way it is. Children are people, not property just because of their American Indian status. We respect that, we teach them about their heritage, which is also MINE too on my nada's side, but I am not on tribal roll. Wish I could prove my ancestry, but due to being NC with nada, that's not a possibility. I can't otherwise get a copy of her birth certificate to prove the lineage. I'm not sure breaking NC with nada is worth it. Nor do I think she'd just happily grant me access to her birth cert. after I've been NC for nearly 3 years. Though I have heard it may help with custody of hubby's kids, but again, even if I asked nada, it's out of my hands and I'm SURE there would be some kind of unpleasantness to deal with for even asking, or some horrible " condition " I'd have to meet in order for her to comply. UGH. I don't think it's worth it. Do you guys? (I'm seriously asking, input is helpful. Especially if you know another way I can go about getting a copy of her birth cert.) Guest guest
Is your nada registered with any tribe? (or do you know what tribe it is?) If so, I wonder if they would give you a copy of of her birth cert. I'm not sure about other ways of gaining access to it..I'd have to do some research about that, especially in the case of estrangement, as the official term is. Hmm... > Thanks Fiona. Guest guest
Mia, A private detective comes to mind. They can get anything for anybody. You are her daughter so it isn't you are trying to perpetrate identity theft and it probably wouldn't cost too much. Sent from my blueberry. > Thanks Fiona. Guest guest
Could you contact the specific tribe that your nada would be considered a member of, and ask her tribe to confirm that she is on their rolls? Or, is there anyone from your nada's generation, a sibling of your nada's, whom you could contact and ask to either retrieve nada's birth certificate for you or provide their own birth certificate to help with this? I am ignorant about such things, but, would not a person's birth be registered in the county in which they were born? Maybe pursuing county records would turn up confirmation that your nada was legally considered to be a Native American. I too think you are a heroic person to try to rescue your husband's children and give them the stable, loving, nurturing home life that all children need and deserve. -Annie > > > > > > So, we read on the state's website that CPS reports could be made in > > > person at the county office. Guest guest
I have some Native American friends, so I'm asking them if there's any way to prove Native status other than trying to get ahold of a copy of the birth cert. has a good point, too--a private detective might help, but I know nothing about it. > Thanks Fiona.
