Guest guest
I'm getting ready to add (Creon) enzymes to my 4 year old son's diet but when I opened the capsule I realized they are gonna be very crunchy which he is probably going to turn down. Does anyone have any tricks how to hide these in his food? He won't eat applesauce and that is the only suggestion the bottle gave me. Guest guest
I would try emptying the capsule either right in to his mouth or on a spoon with a little water. I didn't think my 4 year old (at that time) would take his enzymes well either. But he surprised me and did great! I just tell him it's his medicine and he has to have it to help his tummy. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Just my opinion here as I think it is important to take extra care when taking enzymes, as it is to my understanding that it is dangerous to inhale them or get them in the wrong places like the eyes, there are some enzymes that now specifically say DO NOT OPEN THE CAPSULE, and there are now enzymes that are chewable, If you must give powdered enzymes they have to be mixed with some paste or liquid, but not in powder directly to the mouth, unless suggested for the doctor or the manufacturer. Many parents give them with honey, peanut butter or with the same food he's eating; my son would take them with a bit of lemonade, but then his teeth got really dark and the taste was bad, we switched to trienza chewable and/or enzymedica children enzymes chewable too and he is fine now, his teeth are back to white. Soon I'll have to give him enzymes for biofilm, you just have to be cautious with them like with everything else, that's all.Remember to start low and then work up, my son was extremely sensitive to digestive enzymes at the beginning.Sasha To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 11:04:03 PM Subject: Re: How do I get my 4 year old to take his enzymes? Guest guest
I recommend the direct approach, too. Let's face it, if it were medication, we would get it down them no matter what. Once the kids realize that this is a regular thing and it IS going to happen, they get used to it. I remember McCarthy saying that she would tell Evan(?), "It's time to take your medicine (supplements, really)" and they would do a little run around the room before he took it. But he got used to it and just did it. My kids were like that, too. I gave them some pretty icky stuff over the years and they never balked, just braised themselves and took it because they knew I was determined and was trying to help them get better.sally To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 10:04 PM Subject: Re: How do I get my 4 year old to take his enzymes? Guest guest
We started the enzymes last summer when my son was 5 yrs old. I tried many things - made chocolates and opened the capsule and put the powder in. But the thing that seemed to work best and was easiest for me - was to use a fruit roll-up. My kids never really had fruit roll-ups so that made it a treat. I bought the Simply Fruit kind - all natural colorings etc. I unrolled the roll-up and opened the capsule and sprinkled it inside and rolled it back up and folded over - into a ball. I always made sure they drank water - as another poster stated - the enzymes can irriate the lining of the mouth if not washed down (only a little). They eventually burned out on the roll ups - but both my kids swallow pills now - so its not an issue. Best of luck -- stay firm -- maybe try asking your son how he wants to take the enzyme - don't leave it open as an option. > > I'm getting ready to add (Creon) enzymes to my 4 year old son's diet but when I opened the capsule I realized they are gonna be very crunchy which he is probably going to turn down. Guest guest
Sasha has a good point about inhaling the enzymes. Liam has never done that, but for another child they might. It's to the point now that I say "Liam, supplement time" and he comes over with his mouth wide open, head tilted back and waits til I'm done pouring them in. Then he sits down to eat and drink. So for Liam this works. But for others it could be an issue. You should always read the instructions on the bottle. And if you are using Enzymedica products they have great customer service for any additional questions.Just be careful with the chewables. A lot of them have extra stuff added. Such as sucralose, dyes, preservatives and so on. Mom to 5 year old LiamConnected by DROID on Verizon Wireless Re: How do I get my 4 year old to takehis enzymes?
