This is a symptom that I experienced last Thursday. To set it up for

you, here is my background:

I am a Type-II diabetic (58 years of age), who also had a mild

heart attack on May 5th of this year, and I was diagnosed with

panic/anxiety disorder back in '87 (great combination eh?). I take

medication for my diabetes, high cholesterol, my heart problem, and the

panic disorder. The 5th was a very warm and humid day. On that day I

slept late (until after noon) and ate a light breakfast (or first meal of

the day). One of my hobbies is photography (railroad/trains to be

specific). I had been drinking a lot fluids (primarily Crystal Light)

during the afternoon that I was taking my photos. I set up my

photography position in the shade, utilizing one of those night

lightweight folding seats as a way to rest my arthritic knees (the plot

is getting better ). With the high humidity, I was sweating pretty

good (primarily on my bald (but covered) head). As I was walking around,

I started to feel lightheaded. I bent down to get more blood to the head

(or brain to be more specific). This feeling occurred twice, and went

away after bending down a second time to get more blood to the brain.

I was wondering if this could have been a symptom of the heat combined

with not haven eaten much during the day, and primarily drinking fluids.

Anyone got any thoughts on what might have occurred?

How does 'all of the above' sound? ;-)

Not knowing what your blood sugar readings were, medications, what the

'light' breakfast was etc., makes it almost impossible to say what happened

(a little like looking at the Pyramids in Egypt and wanting to know *how*

they did it). ;-)

It's possible that you could have experienced a low. It's also possible you

could have had problems due to the heat, or possibly dehydration if you were

sweating a lot and not drinking enough (sometimes what we think is enough is

much different than what is really enough).

But you have a handle on what happened, so next time, make sure you have a

decent breakfast (breakfast and lunch should always be the 'heavy hitters'

of food intake and eat lighter later in the day... you need fuel while you

are awake, not when you are asleep)... make sure you have a snack you can

take with you. Start drinking water before you head out and get a head

start on the hydration before you need to treat dehydration. (Water is

probably the best thing to drink, simply because things like Crystal Light

can make us think that we have had enough to drink because of the flavor...

but if you can't drink the water, drink whatever you can.)

Make sure you have protection from the sun and heat (a hat, umbrella or

other source of shade).

Also, I find that I do much better if I try to maintain 'normal' hours If

you have the luxury to sleep until noon on a daily basis, great. That can

be your 'normal' hours. I do better with my medications (insulin) if I take

it at the same time each day...every day.

Hope that helps..

Mike

I'm no expert, but given that I had the same symptoms when I was pregnant

and was diagnosed with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), I would say that your

sugar was low. Did you think to test at all? I'll bet that was exactly it.

Sue I have to agree ...he had me hooked in the story just like a good book

....sense of humor was great ! ....only guess on the light headedness is possibly

a sugar drop and the heat combined but still yet I enjoyed how he presented it !
