i use 50 mgs at bedtime along with melatonin....and I give him 12.5 mgs. throughout the day. +1 for melatonin at night. it dramatically improved our night time routine. Our

son is almost 5 and 50 pounds too and we give one, 1mg chewable tablet. Kirkman

is the brand we use.

+1 for melatonin at night. it dramatically improved our night time routine. Our

son is almost 5 and 50 pounds too and we give one, 1mg chewable tablet. Kirkman

is the brand we use.

I am late in responding to this, but any cal-mag-citrate powder (mix with hot

water to make a drink) is helpful at night for calming. Natural Vitality's

Natural Calm is easily accessible, but it does have stevia and a flavoring in

it. We have used Thorne's as well- no flavoring or sweetener to react to.

There is a GABA supporter called Kavinace that has helped us a lot. But there

are dependance issues. Going off of it brings very hard days. We have stuck with

it, for 2 years now- I started it also because my daughter and I have similar

issues- to great effect. It brings mental clarity and reduces anxiety

significantly for me. It has been wonderful but I do not like being 'stuck' on

it and need to dive into reasearch on eventually getting off of it.

Treating for parasites with Humaworm has greatly reduced night wakings. As well,

a low salicyalate/phenol and low oxalate diet (a diet that does not aggravate

parasites) turned us around from 5-15 wakings a night to just one or two.

Related to this, histamine (an excitatory neurotransmitter) levels are greatest

between 2 and 4 in the morning and if there are underlying food sensitivities or

parasites (intricately related, in my opinion and experience), this increases

mast cell release of histamine and other NT's. A good quercetin supplement helps

with this (We use Thorne Quercenase). Quercetin/Bromlain combos can really help

with hyperactivity. It matters what the Quercetin is sourced from, though (if

sourced from grapefruit, if I remember correctly, it can increase the mast cell

release). So try different supplements if one does not work/exacerbates

hyperactivity. Also, we've found that when Mia is off the charts hyper, it takes

4-6 of the Thorne Q/B's twice a day to get her down. I have seen 1000mg of

Quercetin, but the source affected Mia.

Also consider Histame as an enzyme to help essentially eat up the excess

histamine.

We have recently started using Hyland's Nerve Tonic to great effect. It contains

magnesium salts and other salts depleted by stress. I give our 5 year old 2

sublinguals up to 8 times a day. It really slows down sensory seeking behavior

and tones down what I call 'starving rabid dog' behavior- freaking out when

anyone touches a toy she is playing with or goes near her while she is coloring.

Our Dan MD told us we could work slowly up to as much as 3 mg of melatonin (Mia

5 years, 42 lbs). We tried this for a while, but Mia actually had a negative

reaction in the mornings when we were using it. It increased her frustration

with motor planning/transitions. Our middle daughter did well on melatonin,

though.

i also have my 4 yr old on a LOD and she is taking mag, p5p, calcium, zinc, trace minerals, and high biotin doses. finally she sleeps. i am still tring to stop lots of saliva and hands constantly in her mouth. any ideas?
