may i offer a suggestion to everyone?

every time my neuro sent me for a new test - every time my pcp sent me for a new

test, the results were always sent back to them, the ordering doctor.

i had to take their word for it, as to the results AND when i went to yet

another new doctor, who inquired about my recent tests, i had to sign a release,

wait for weeks while they obtained my results from my ordering doctor and then

return for a second appointment now that they had my records! talk about

frustrating!

that's when i decided to start my own file, which i carry with me to all

doctor's appointments.

now i obtain copies of all my tests that have been performed. i get copies of

all my doctor's letters to other doctor's.

i have taken a pro-active stance towards MY health and it has paid off big time,

time and again.

so, if i may suggest, please take the time (and it will take time but it is

worth it in the long run) to obtain copies of your results of your tests and any

other documents pertaining to your health. you may have to follow up several

times to get copies, but they are yours so do not despair.

keep them in clear sleeves and in a folder. keep them either in chronological

order or by doctor.

just my 2 cents worth.

That's excellent advice, Diva! I used to be better about keeping/getting copies and I guess I should get back to doing that. Thanks for the nudge. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. This is what I love about Alberta. We have a system here called

HealthNet which is a database accessed by doctors, hospitals and labs.

All test results, reports, and hospital stays are located in this

dadabase so that your doctor need only consult it to access test results

and reports ordered by any of your other doctors.

I believe that this also helps to prevent fraud since a person can't go

from hospital to hospital without due reason (IE someone with

Munchausen's). It is protected under the FIFA privacy act which spells

out who can access what information. If needed, you can make it

confidential, barring anyone from accessing it without your express

permission. This means that when I go to see my neurologist after my

discharge, he'll have all the pertinent info, MRI, etc at his fingertips.
