No. In my experience, you'd be much better off finding a DAN than trying to go through your ped. If you've already spoken to your doctor, you may find that it's difficult to get any further as Valtrex doesn't treat autism and that's how any discussion inevitably turns out to sound unless you really understand the processes involved.Valtrex is treating HHV strains which is an issue of stealth viruses. You can check out HHV-6Foundation.org for more information on that and you can google stealth virus but a ped likely will not agree to do this. Not because it's dangerous, but because they know nothing about it and autism is too controversial to touch and even give the appearance of trying to "treat" it medically. That's why DANs and and others tend to not be very well respected by the rest of the medical community - no one wants to end up like Wakefield - an unlicensed MD.Take your research toward stealth viruses:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=stealth%20virus%20autismAnd herpes viruses in autism:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=hhv6%20autismhttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=EBV%20autismhttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=cmv%20autismChange your search parameters to focus on viruses or herpes viruses. Don't try to search for Valtrex and autism as that's not what anyone is actually doing. We're treating the immune system, not the autism. Most of us don't even believe that autism is a real diagnosis - it's just a collection of symptoms of something biological happening. In some it's viruses, in others it's metals, etc. And some have a combination and some we just haven't figured out yet. But there's really no other explanation for why some kids get better and even recover with one thing but another recovers with something else. We're getting different results across the board for everyone but we do still get results in a significant enough number of kids that we know that something else is going on than a psychological disorder.
