Guest guest
The law says everyone must be granted 5 weeks of vacation (or 25 work days), and must use up at least 4 weeks (or 20 work days) every year. The surplus (whatever you have above 4 weeks) can be saved for another year (meaning if you take only 4 vacation weeks one year, you could take 6 the next year). actually has 6 weeks of vacation, but she usually divide it into 4 weeks in a row during the summer, 1 week during Christmas (together with the week off between Christmas eve and New Years day that all employees at her work gets, and all the holidays during that time of year, she could, on a "good year" make that vacation week into three weeks off). And then the last week she uses one day at a time whenever she feels like a day off during the year.Oh, and yes, the maternity/paternity leave is 18 months with pay – 17 months can be claimed by either parent, but 1 month is a mandatory "daddy month". In reality, most parents share the leave kind of equally (with the mother taking the first part and the father the latter), but that's up to the parents to decide for themselves. Apart from those 18 months, the dad also has a right to 10 extra days right after the birth (meaning: for the first 2 weeks after the baby is born, both parents can stay at home with pay, that way they both get to "bond" with the child from early on, plus it could be that the new mom needs extra help so close to giving birth). And after the baby is 18 months old you can get temporary parental leave (with pay), when the child is sick, or if there is some acticity in the child's school you'd want to take part in. There is (of course) a limit to how many of those temporary days you can claim in one year, but I don't know the exact number. We had perfect weather when we went to the zoo, actually. A lot cooler, and a slight breeze. We thought that day was the end of the heat wave, but it seems it was only a temporary break. The heat came back (although it seems, hopefully, to be ending now). However, it was great not to have to walk around in the zoo all day (or, ok, half the day) in those kind of temperatures. Pixie absolutely adores ! So she was glad to be able to spend time with her.Pixie presented an interesting theory regarding coffee one day. I was making coffee and asked Pixie to go ask her mother if she wanted some. Which it turned out she did. Pixie sat on a kitchen chair while I was making it and said: "But Pixie doesn't like coffee". I said that no, I was aware of that... And then she added: "And Signe Cat doesn't like it, and Wasti Cat doesn't like it. And the lizard doesn't like it." I asked her if she had asked the lizard (our salamander), she answered: "No, but mum said". And then she added: "I think only big ones like coffee". There you go, coffee drinking as a size issue, rather than as an age thing... Well, if you take the animals (in our household) into consideration, I guess that's the only reasonable conclusion... ; )love/Reb>> Pixie is so cute and funny! What a doll! Guest guest
My mother and her husband will be here this weekend, that's the most immediate plan. And we will spend a week in a cottage by the Sea (the Baltic Sea). Other than that, we will do whatever we feel like from day to day. Have a list of things that we may do, all of it things that can be decided on the same day, no need to make a plan and stick to it (that was the criteria for entering the list...).On a whole other note, I read your post about your knee, and I just wanted to say that I think the meniscus tear should be dealt with, even (or almost especially) if you have arthritis too. A torn meniscus could cause the arthritis to worsen, and fast (because it will affect the way the wear and tear of the joint function). I have had meniscus surgery twice (in the same knee), and I have a dx of early onset arthritis in my knees as well. When I had my first meniscus surgery, the meniscus had actually been torn for, I think it was, two years, and the ortopedic surgeon felt that this was a contributing factor in that my arthritis in that knee is further progressed than in the other. I don't know a lot about how the medical insurances work (we don't have that in Sweden), but I am thinking that most, if not all, insurances should cover meniscus surgery, since it's so common for people to need it. Weight loss is of course also an important thing to get done, as far as the arthritis goes. It may actually make it a whole lot better. PT is important too, but - alas! - and I really hate to be the bearer of bad news – it could never make your arthritis any better, it could only stop it from worsening. Or in any case slow down it's progress. I hope that is not a too depressing thought. I know that, for myself, the first time a PT told me that it was actually a relief, finally someone is being realistic about it all! (Of course I would very much want my arthritis to get better, but after a couple of years of PT without seeing any signs of it getting better, you could actually start doubt oneself: Am I not doing it right? Or, is it really getting better although I am being to negativistic to see that? And things like that.) Best of luck to you and your knees!love/Reb> >> > Pixie is so cute and funny! What a doll! Guest guest
The Baltic Sea sounds just stunning and I'llbet a cottage there is just breathtaking! Youneed to send pics when you can. It is nice tojust be spontaneous when it comes to vacations. Our family will be leaving this Tuesday night togo down to Myrtle Beach, SC to stay and visitwith my mother in law. We get to stay with her,so we save on any hotel costs. As far as whatwe do while we are down there, we don't havea set idea. We know there will be the pool, thebeach, mini golf, water park and amusement park, but if and when we go to each will be determinedday by day.As far as my knee goes, would you get a secondopinion, Reb? This guy thinks it is more the arthritis that is causing the pain, and not the tear. Not that I WANT surgery, but if that is what I doin fact need, I don't want to put it off. Surgery, Ithink, is always better when you're younger, andcan, hopefully, heal faster.Thank you for responding to my post about my knee;that means a lot to me. I don't know a whole lot aboutknees, and I was hoping someone would know morethan I--and you do. So thank you.I hope you have a splendid time this weekend, andyour vacation as well.love to you and ,Kate Update> > > > > > > > > We have had my sister and her daughter (Pixie, 2,5 years) > here this week. > > > > > > We went to the zoo (in another city) this tuesday. Guest guest
Short answer (since it's close to midnight here, and I am beat...):Yes, I would definitely get a second opinion. Even if it is the arthritis that is causing the pain, the meniscus tear isn't going to make that arthritis any better (quite the opposite). Of course, if the tear is really minor, and you are lucky, it could heal without surgery. But it should not be neglected in any case.best of luck!love/Reb> > >> > > Pixie is so cute and funny!
