Guest guest
Hi everyone, My name is Aly and I just joined this support group. I have a living parent with BPD and I'm just now seeking help as an adult. I've been reading some books on BPD and a lot of my childhood experiences are coming to life, but I just need to purge them to move on, however painful. Are there any specific books on BPD that you have found helpful? Aly
Guest guest
Welcome to the Group, Aly. I myself found " Understanding The Borderline Mother " to have a huge impact on my perception of my childhood, and then-current life. As I read it I had the uncanny feeling that this author was writing about me, personally. I could only take in a page or two at a time, sometimes less, because reading it was dredging up and triggering such intense repressed, unacknowledged pain and anger. But I think it was necessary, and cathartic, to consciously feel that pain and experience that anger and start to process it. Again, Welcome. -Annie > > Hi everyone, > > My name is Aly and I just joined this support group. I have a living parent with BPD and I'm just now seeking help as an adult. Guest guest
I will second Annie's suggestion on " Understanding The Borderline Mother " . I also felt like the author had some weird insight to my childhood. It was an exceptional read. I also would recommend " Stop Walking on Eggshells " , which is written by Randi Kreger, the owner of this email group. It's a great book and it has some insight for anyone dealing with a BPD in their life and includes some good advise on communication techniques which I find work well with most any difficult person, BPD or not. Another one I have been meaning to read that was suggested by my therapist is called, " I hate you, don't leave me " . Now that I'm done with school, I need to see if my local library has that one. But yes, the first 2 are, IMO, incredible. You might want to have some tissues handy, I know for me reading through those books the first time was tough, yet rewarding/validating.
