Guest guest
My son is sick with a cold and had a high fever on Friday night. There has been an obvious improvement in his behavior since (less hyper, less stimming, more verbal and relational). This has happened before and it usually only lasts a few days. I didn't give him any medication for this illness, just the usual supplements. Can someone refresh my memory on why this happens with some kids on the spectrum? Thanks much :-}
Guest guest
My recollection is that the fever addresses a persistent low level /sub clinical viral infections. For us this was very pronounced when my son was younger. I believe it was after reading this book where this was described that we determined our son to be a " viral kid. Guest guest
It appears that most of the autism we see is from immune dysfunction. The fever is representing that the immune system is working close to normal again. It could be that since the immune system is working correctly, it's in balance - not attacking self. It could also be that many and some docs say nearly all, with autism have pleomorphic bacteria, which hibernates upon fever. When things like Lyme or Bartonella are in hibernation mode, they cause little symptoms. The spirochete mode is the most cause of the symptoms. My kids typically got better upon a fever. Now that they are in managed recovery, they get a little tired with a fever. I'll never forget when one of mine was on his regression road, he kept getting high fevers, 104 and even 104.7 once. He would play as if nothing was wrong with him. Back then, I didn't know about all this, but I knew it was very odd for kids to do this. In the old days, kids and people get listless with fevers. You would never see a kid with a fever of 104 out of bed because they would be extremely fatigued. So, yes there are many reports on the autism forums of children losing symptoms only while the fever is present. Also, many report losing symptoms while on certain antibiotics, or on vacation. These are the amazing signs that let us know that our kids can be recovered. Love and prayers, Heidi N My son is sick with a cold and had a high fever on Friday night. Guest guest
My son had flu two weeks ago. His tmax was 102. I cannot say that his symptoms were better during fever, it is just that he was not stimming during the time. He was very quiet. After the fever resolved, stimming increased. Speech is the same as before. What does that mean? He spiked a fever after a long time. Now to me he seems restless and moves a lot and although strep test was negative, I feel like there could be a component of Pandas. Has anyone experienced increased stimming and restlessness after a febrile illness? is > > It appears that most of the autism we see is from immune dysfunction. > The fever is representing that the immune system is working close to > normal again.
