My skin as become drier since diabetes. I've heard that is one of the symptoms... it was talked about in my diabetes class (especially the need to put lotion on your feet to reduce the possibility of dry skin and cracking)... Nothing was ever said about anything dietary to help with dry skin. I'd recommend a lotion, one with a sunscreen. After all, dermatologists recommend putting a sunscreen on when out in the sun... and there's plenty of sun these days! Mike

Guest guest
I used to use Moisturel, which had been prescribed to me by my dermatologist for chronic scaley eczema. It is not a prescription lotion but it is more expensive than any of the usual dry skin products. Not all drugstores carry it, but it is available on-line. Either google it or try anotc.com. It also comes in a cream that is great for night. I highly recommend this product. smclement@...> wrote: The is a lotion that is prescription only that works really well. Guest guest
I truly believe in lots of water and fresh blueberries. . . .also avocados are really good for the skin. I refer to eating them, of course. I am 43 years of age and have the soft skin of a baby. My husband (on this list) will attest to that! I do not use a lot of the moisturizers on the market. For the same reason I do not ingest foods with chemicals, I try not to use too many on my skin. I like to use natural things to clean my face, such as pumpkin. I believe Eunice has a recipe for a facial wash or mask using pumpkin as the main ingredient. Your face feels so refreshing afterwards. A good sunblock is always good, too. I have read several articles indicating that we must moisturize from the inside out. This means lots of water or other fluids. As someone mentioned earlier, diabetics tend to need more water than the average person. It helps us in regulating our blood sugar, in addition to helping our entire system function much more efficiently. I also believe exercise helps the skin with an overall healthier appearance. Someone here on the list may be able to explain this. I just know from experience that my skin is much healthier in appearance when I keep to a regular exercise program. If I slack off, I notice the difference in my skin almost immediately. and I are off to the health spa. We joined just yesterday, and we absolutely love it. There's more equipment than you can possibly imagine, 3 swimming pools, and a very relaxing spa to enjoy after all the work is done. I came home last night and fell asleep so peacefully. Of course, that was after my nightly foot massage - compliments of my husband! It's an awesome way to keep the feet in shape. . .if you are not ticklish! I don't know if I was of any help, but I have found the less you do to your face, the better. It's the constant washing with chemicals that plays havoc on your skin, along with the diabetes. Sometimes at night, I just take a wet, hot washcloth and clean my face. It feels very clean afterwards and I have never had a problem with blemishes. ~Rhonda Yeager-Nodge
Guest guest
Ditto on what Rhonda is saying here. I totally agree. She does have very soft, fine skin and very kissable. I will stop here. She also does not look 43. She is very young for her age and young at heart. Water is needed inside and outside of us. Our internal organs need to stay lubricated in order to function properly. We loose water constantly throughtout the day, via sweat, urine, etc. Our external organs, ie our skin also need to say lubricated. Having diabetes and our fluctuating blood sugars can affect our skin's moisture levels. Constant high numbers can cause some to have dry skin. Therefore, we need more fluids then our non diabetic allies. The spa we have joined is wonderful. It is worth the money. There equipment is top notch and after a few days of use arleady, we can notice the difference in our bodies. Exercise also keeps us young, aides in our circulatory system and refreshes our mentality. To make a general statement here. Guest guest
Hi Carla: My skin was very dry until I started taking fish oil capsules daily. It's actually for my Bipolar disorder, but a side benefit is soft skin. I also take primrose oil along with the fish oil. Hope this helps! Joan .
