Healing regression, yeast, or something else?

My 8 year old started valtrex and diflucan 10 days ago. He has been very

sensitive the last few days and Today he had a really bad day at school- lots of

crying and refusing to do work. He has also urinated in his pants 3 times in the

last few days. This has never been a problem for him before. Any experience with

this as a side effect of valtrex?

Thank you,

Jenna

You should never start both at the same time. It's *very* hard die off to go through. Die from the antiviral *and* antifungal. It's very uncomfortable so there will be lots of crying, whining and refusal.Urinating could be a part of the die off (probably is but I can't guarantee you that).Give some motrin, it does help. Die off is not fun.

To clarify: we just had a stool test done and had no evidence of yeast. He also

showed good levels of most of the beneficial bacteria. We started the diflucan

with the valtrex to stave off any yeast that the valtrex might kick up. I'm just

wondering if we're solving a problem(virus) or creating one (yeast).

Thanks for the tip on the ibuprofen. I'll try it.

Are you using activated charcoal for the die off? If not then try activated

charcoal capsule 2 hours away from food and supplements. Charcoal doesn't get

absorbed and soaks up the toxins released when yeast dies. Whenever we use

something strong for my son's infections, he gets strong die off reactions with

crying, loss of bowel and bladder control and symptoms improve with activated

charcoal.

*sigh*If I had a penny for every time I heard that yeast was negative...well, I'd rather have a dollar for every time. ;)I wish people would just stop getting stool tests to check for yeast. It's a pointless endeavor as it's really just a 50/50 chance it's right. Flipping a coin is cheaper. To all the other parents: raise your hand if you've gotten a false negative on yeast...(that's the sound of a whole bunch of hands going up in the air)You won't stave off anything by giving antifungals at the same time. The reason for this: there's almost always a yeast problem. You will have die off. You *are* having die off. And now, since you started the antifungal at the same time as the antiviral, you can't really pinpoint which behavior stems from what because you are having die off from both the antiviral and the antifungal. Part of learning what viral symptoms are and fungal symptoms are in our kids is going through the die off process individually so you can see for yourself so you don't have to guess with ineffective testing.Soooo, now you have slog through or start over. Personally, I would just slog through. It's going to be that much harder to learn what behavior corresponds to what though. But if you've already started going through the horrible die off, might as well try to finish it out rather than start all over with it.It really irritates me when doctors don't think about all the reasons for not starting things at the same time. I'm seriously at a point where I would just rather no one got labs from GPL or Doctors Data. They are almost all unreliable anyway. Everything you need to know you can figure out with normal labs and good note taking skills. If you want to understand why there is a yeast problem on antivirals, click the link my signature. There is a very good, scientific reason for the increase in yeast. And it will *always* be a problem on antivirals. It's a problem for those with genital herpes, it's a problem for those with shingles, it's a problem for anyone taking antivirals. It just is. But for many, it's impossible to control viruses without it.Like my house. The one where I just tried (again) to just drop down to 2x a day with nightmarish results. Again. Antivirals are long term. Very few people can get away with a 9 months or a year.
