Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a friend in Canada whose twin boys(3 years old) were recently diagnosed with ASD. She needs help with workup for her kids and there are very few dans available in Canada and she cannot afford to see one as she has two kids. Her kids are already on dairy free diet, on methyl b12 shots(prescribed by her family doctor on my recommendation), zinc, vitamin D, multivitamins and probiotics. She needs to get OATS, Stool CDSA and other stuff done but I am not sure where they are done in Canada. The OAT test done at her mainstream lab came back normal(likely not reliable). She is suspecting yeast overgrowth in her kids but the regular docs do not believe in it(its amazing that she was able to get methy b12 shots prescribed). Is there anyone on the forum from Canada and if so, who is your dan? Is there any other way that she could get the workup done either in Canada or USA? Any help would be appreciated. is
Guest guest
There are a few dan doctors around, unfortunately sometimes they are not very knowledgeable, there is one that is good, sometimes we see her at this very list.. Sonya from Burlington... she has a lot of experience with autistic kids.. also for doctors MD there is one at Markham, doctor ganage, but many parents say he has no bedside manners... this are doctors from Ontario, unfortunately I haven't find any other that would satisfied our needs, but we are about to go see Dr. Ganage.. after about a year of looking for one that knows something about autism... I know there are some users in this list from Canada.. like Owen Sound area, but again this is just Ontario... There was something like a big meeting of doctors in Vancouver recently, I'm sure many doctors got some knowledge from it, so keep asking, she can ask her early interventionist, they do know, but they are not suppose to recommend anyone, I still ask her for doctors and she did gave me some names, but they did not know anything about basic testing for my son, as for tests, they have to be prescribe by a MD but she can still get the kits from great labs and do the oat and gig tests. because this tests are not covered by OHIP or the regular health card, but again many are, and even she could have them covered by assistance at home or something like that is called at york region... they cover my melatonine and my shipping expenses, and they would pay for the Igg food sensitivities test in a local lab if I call them. I guess it depends where in Canada she is. Tell her to email me, I can answer some questions she has, not that I know much, but at least I live in Canada too! EHH!! :)SashaTo: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2011 10:58:42 PMSubject: Need help for a friend in Canada Hi everyone, I have a friend in Canada whose twin boys(3 years old) were recently diagnosed with ASD. Guest guest
Alberta might be able to point her in the right direction. If not, she can always check out Dr. Woeller's website (for a small monthly fee, she can become a member and he will pull labs)Also, I believe you can order labs through Great Plains and if you need a doc's signature, there is a way to obtain one through them ($$).Of course, this would all be out of pocket. I'm fortunate enough to have a dan doc who takes my insurance, but from what I iunderstand, sometimes the charge for a dan visit can be more than the labs! If she is not faced those steep-fees, it might makes [aying for labs possible. Those are just some options. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2011 10:58 PMSubject: Need help for a friend in Canada Hi everyone, I have a friend in Canada whose twin boys(3 years old) were recently diagnosed with ASD. Guest guest
Thanks Tammy! I suggested Dr Woeller's website to her but we thought that she would still need her doctor to order the tests and the doctors in Canada are not that open. But I'll look into it again and see if she can get any help thru that. I'll call GPL also to see what exactly they will require. Thanks for your help. is > > Alberta might be able to point her in the right direction. > If not, she can always check out Dr. Woeller's website (for a small monthly fee, she can become a member and he will pull labs) > Also, I believe you can order labs through Great Plains and if you need a doc's signature, there is a way to obtain one through them ($$). > Of course, this would all be out of pocket. Guest guest
I can not help you with finding DAN doctor or similar thing but just my 2 cents.if your friend is in Vancouver, University of British Columbia has excellent department dedicated to Autism. She could check what they have to offer with regards to therapy or clinical trials (not all clinical trials involve drugs) In some clinical trials, her children could get free therapy. Something like http://www.hunterplaylab.com/parents.htm I missed it as I didn't know and I am just an hour from this place, felt terrible. / Noel Hi everyone, I have a friend in Canada whose twin boys(3 years old) were recently diagnosed with ASD.
