Guest guest
I find it interesting that of all the protective mechanisms mentioned in the three studies I just posted, none of them involved lowering cholesterol. All of them involved regulation of smooth muscle cell growth and or activity, clotting factor regulation and/or antioxidant factors. This is somewhat supportive of what Bond's analysis of cholesterol studies suggested. If I remember correctly, the only class of cholesterol lowering drugs that have had any effect on heart disease rates are the statins; however, the statins do more than just lower cholesterol. They also have a couple of other effects, but I recall that one of their effects was definitely antioxidant. Anyway, I though that was interesting and possibly comforting to anyone who's still somewhat concerned about their cholesterol levels.
