Guest guest Posted January 8, 2011 Report Share Posted January 8, 2011 Important Recall Message: Alcohol swabs manufactured by the TRIAD GROUP: Recall - Possible contaminated swabs Triad Group, a manufacturer of over-the-counter products and the FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients of a recall involving all lots of alcohol prep pads, alcohol swabs, and alcohol swabsticks manufactured by Triad but can be sold under various private labels. This recall has been initiated due to concerns about potential contamination of the products with bacillus cereus. This recall involves those products marked as sterile as well as non-sterile products. Use of contaminated alcohol prep pads, alcohol swabs, and alcohol swabsticks could lead to life-threatening infections, especially in at-risk populations, including immune suppressed and surgical patients. To date they have received one report of a non-life-threatening skin infection. Alcohol prep pads, alcohol swabs, and alcohol swabsticks are used to disinfect prior to an injection. They were distributed nationwide to pharmacies and are packaged in individual packets and sold in boxes of 100 packets. The affected Alcohol Prep Pads, Alcohol Swabs and Alcohol Swabsticks can be identified by Triad Group listed as the manufacturer Products are manufactured for a third party and use the following names listed in their packaging: Cardinal Health PSS Select Versaport Boca/ Ultilet Medical Walgreen's CVS Conzellin What you should do: Please stop using any affected alcohol swabs above and obtain a supply of alcohol swabs from your local pharmacy as soon as possible. Side effects are unlikely, but skin infection has occurred. Symptoms of a skin or injection site infection include swelling, hot to touch, pain, fever, etc. Other common symptoms of an infection can include flu-like symptoms, tired, achy, and fever. While serious infections have not been reported, confusion, shortness of breath, incontinence, and low blood pressure could be a sign of a serious infection that requires immediate attention. Contact your prescriber if you experience any of these symptoms. Adverse reactions or quality problems experienced with the use of this product may be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax. Just contacted the nurse line at Shared Solutions (Copaxone support) and they said to dispose of all the Triad alcohol swabs and to use a cotton ball and alcohol, or another brand.
