Nursing Home Controversy In Orange

Reported by: Raquel Duncan

Wednesday, Sep 3, 2008 @04:07pm CST

Lots of praise Wednesday night over how the evacuation of thousands

of southeast Texans was handled. But not everyone is pleased.

Directors of a couple of Orange nursing homes are upset. They say

Acadian Ambulance Service didn't come through for them during last

weekend's mandatory evacuation.

Acadian officials say they don't know where they went wrong. They say

everyone who requested to be evacuated by Acadian were evacuated.

Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center says Acadian Ambulance

Service did not help them evacuate and they had to make other

arrangements to take care of its residents.

The director of the Orange Villa Nursing Home says her facility was

only partially evacuated by Acadian, and that she too had to make

other arraignments for those left behind.

Acadian spokesperson, Cirillo, says his company made pickup

arrangements with Meadows Nursing Home Saturday. He says when they

arrived about 5-hours later, the doors to the nursing home were

locked up and Cirillo says it appeared everyone was gone. But Cirillo

does say his company completely evacuated the Orange Villa Nursing

Home.

To prevent situations like this from happening in the future, Cirillo

hopes both parties will have better communication.
