Guest guest
Friend of mine who used to be at Washoe County Medical Center in Reno, NV, and who routinely drew blood for the NV state troopers, reports that a man walked in under his own power and tested .53. There are reports of autopsy results above that, but that's the highest living one I have ever heard. GG > > I have a " just curious " question. Guest guest
I have a " just curious " question. What is the highest BAL (Blood Alcohol Level) that you have experienced in a living patient? I'm sure the ER docs will win this by a long shot, but I was wondering what the range of human tolerance was. The inquiry comes after running a patient today with the ambulance crew (DURING the Cowboy game of course) that was behind the wheel with a .433 BAL. Country Musician Whitley (R.I.P.) died with a reported .477 Fire Away! Steve Lt. Steve Lemming, A.A.S., L.P. Guest guest
..550 obtained by a blood draw. Patient was in his 50's, chronic alcoholic since his teens, liver nearly sticking out of his belly. Arrived in ER for " jail clearance " , pt was surprisingly very alert and oriented. Told us that if his BAC went below 350 he would start having seizures. He knew the drill. He requested to be admitted with an alcohol drip or an RX for a few six packs - the MD on duty had treated him before and that is the treatment for this guy. The hospital staff had to go to the shop and rob before 2am to buy his six pack. AJL > I have a " just curious " question.
