Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to posting, but read a lot from this group. My 9 year old son is about to complete his second course of vancomycin/fluconazole. A few months ago he was treated for PANDAS with amoxicillin for a few weeks followed by a 3 day pulse of steroids. While he was on the amoxicillin he was up EVERY night for hours, so the doc suspected clostridia and sure enough it was through the roof. I know the amox killed his gut, so I wish we didn't do it or did a shot of penicillin instead. Oh well. My question is: now that he is going off the vancyo and fluconazole, how can I bombard the gut with good bugs to try to keep the levels of clostridia and yeast low? I already use Custom Probiotics D-lactate. I was thinking of adding cocobiotic juice or keifer product, and maybe another probiotic. If anyone can give me suggestions on how to keep the clostridia and yeast at bay, I would be grateful! Lori G.
Guest guest
Clostridia ---Dr. Kurt Woeller Dr.Woeller's Response ============================= It sounds like the most likely culprit is clostridia. You could try some Culturelle – 2 to 4 capsules daily, along with some Grapefruit Seed Extract (Nutribiotic) – 10 drops (diluted in citrus juice) three times daily. This may help. The most direct way is to give Flagyl or Vancomycin for 10 days. This usually works much quicker. Subject: Re: [stop Calling It Autism!] Biting, pinching and scratching ... Desperate Thanks Dr.Woeller for your reply. May I know if there is a test to check for clostridia and how do I treat it? For MOAT , it would take atleast 3 weeks to get the results? Is there anything I can do before that to fix this problem at school? My son had diarrhea a couple of days ago . Appreciate you help. Thanks so much again Dr..Woeller's response ===================== It Autism!] Biting, pinching and scratching ... Desperate There are a couple of things to consider: * Bad reaction to one the drugs. This would have to be isolated by removing one of them at a time for 2 to 3 days to see if one of them is the culprit. Usually, this is not the case * Reaction to an ‘inactive’ ingredient in one of the medications, i.e. dyes or flavorings. This is possible in kids with known phenol sensitivities * Clostridia overgrowth in the intestines. This can be brought on by using antifungals, i.e. Nystatin, Nizoral, Diflucan. One reason I always recommend doing an Organic Acid Test (or at least a Microbial Organic Acid Test) from Great Plains is to identify the presence of clostridia (marker is HPHPA). Often kids have clostridia and when they are put on antifungals it tends to exacerbate this bacteria and its toxin. If the child is having loose smelly stools along with this behavior than this suspicion for this bacteria is even higher. This would be the first thing on my list of suspicions. Dr.. My son bit a teacher real bad and she had to see a doctor for treatment. What can I do to fix this issue. This has been going on for 2-3 weeks now. He gets frustrated when we say "no". Guest guest
For clostridia, lactobacillus GG & sachromyces boulardi are best. I think Kirmwn may have a product that combines both. Guest guest
culturelle is great for clostridia bacteria....you got to use at least three to six adult capsules a day....the kids powder is only effective for infants...start low dose and increase capsules...
