I'm sure most/all of you have heard about the terrible shootings in Tucson where Congresswoman Giffords was shot and 6 were killed by a deranged gunman? Yesterday we heard that the Westboro Baptist Church was planning to 'picket' at the funerals. Arizona is incensed! For those of you who don't know about the so-called church they come to the funerals of fallen soldiers and stand outside yelling horrible stuff like "God hates you", "God is glad you are dead"...etc. They also went to funeral. Anyway today the Arizona State Legislature passed an emergency bill providing a "Funeral Protection Zone". Governor Brewer immediately signed it into law! http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/azelections/articles/2011/01/11/20110111arizona-shootings-funeral-bill-passes.html SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Good thing! Hopefully other states will follow.Westboro Baptist Church really is doing every church everywhere a disservice by acting the way they do. Now, I am not so sure I'd see them as a church, they seem to me more of one incredibly dysfunctional family (they are, is my impression, all, or almost all, in some kind of family relation with the leader of the church). But church is what they call themselves, and thus how they are unfortunately viewed by many. They are very well known in Sweden as well, since they celebrated the death of several hundred Swedes (including more than a hundred children) in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. That made many people very upset. They have also claimed to have picketed the Royal Castle in protest of the princesses choice of dresses for the Nobel Prize banquet (showed too much skin, apparently). But they either did that inside their own heads only, or they mistook some other place and building for the Royal Castle of Stockholm, Sweden, because they were never seen on, outside or near the castle, not even by the guards or secret service...One unfortunate effect of this in Sweden is that by many people they are not only seen as "a church", but, since they are an American "church", as representative of American churches. And, needless to say, they don't exactly present a very positive image. This way they do American churches, and Americans, a great disservice abroad too. love/Reb>> I'm sure most/all of you have heard about the terrible shootings in Tucson where > Congresswoman Giffords was shot and 6 were killed by a deranged gunman? > Yesterday we heard that the Westboro Baptist Church was planning to 'picket' at > the funerals. I know about the idjuts - I think they all need a mandatory 6 month inpatient stay in restraints - picketing funerals is ...

sorry - the father of a fallen soldiers was sued by the church for breaking the church's right to free speech or something - he lost the suit

all I can say is the planet would be richer without people like this

several states including Oklahoma wrote laws to restrict their picketing - they were all struck down by higher courts

the last time they tried it - woopsy their tires were slashed where the van was parked - funny it being a small town - very patriotic - only Wal Mart would answer their AAA - of course the people that drew the short straw had a lot of s'plaining to do after work

I do not believe they should be allowed to do this - families are non combatants - we would be carted off to jail if we picked their funerals

sorry I am an army brat - I want to puke every time I hear their latest insanity God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

I went and looked up this super fanatical group. It seems that more than a couple states have enacted the same type laws. I'm glad your guys moved as quickly as they did. I also read that other places, when they heard this group was going to arrive, grouped together and surrounded them thus shielding the families from the crass, rudeness. I'm afraid that had they shown up at Bud's funeral, for any reason.. I don't think they'd have been going back to Westboro.. at least not walking.. and I really doubt they'd have been doing any talking either. At this point in time I'm afraid to read a news article online, or turn on the television and I really think we need to revive the Anne Murray hit.. "A Little Good News Today".. I was awake at around 4:30 this morning, and had to come take a half a Xanax, because I woke up with a Panic Attack.. Hope you're staying warm out there Sharon.. and that things stay calm.. But then again.. HUGS|)onna Arizona State legislature is blocking Westboro Baptist Church!

I do admit there are a lot of cowboys around - but for the most part they aren't outlaws - it is hard on many of the police officers - they are reserve or guard or vets - the bad thing is if you use their tactics against them - they win

Southern Law Poverty Center with Dees took the Klan to court and bankrupted them - going after a cult with a church status is dicey - I am surprized their religious qualification has stood this long

I do know of Southern fundamentalist churches that have gone to bat for pagans for freedom of religion - it is a right - and this was before the DOD recognized Pagan as a religion

God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

A number of states have veterans that ride Harleys - they provide escort to the funeral cortege and to the family to the funeral home and cemetary - before they changed the regulations they went to OKC (paying their tolls themselves) and accompanied the cortege here to Lawton - now the regs have changed the last one went from our local airport east to Duncan in s county

some of you know that Tir is writing a tv script for a series OHB will have this as part of an episode - a volunteer group comes together to help the vets, active duty, and those that love them - hopefully Operation HOme Front will benefit and more people get involved on a local level to help the military and the vets

the staff is like a family - sorta dysfunctional at times - but their aim is to find - sometimes out of the box ways to help

A - I promised not to give details

B - my brain died God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

Yes, Kate, Giffords has survived! I saw her doc on TV this morning and he said he is "101% sure" she will live. She is responding to simple commands and is now breathing on her own. What a miracle for her. I so wish the same miracle had happened for the six who died. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
