Hi,

Three days ago, my 7 yo son is showing a noticeable increase in clinging to

stuff, clothes, routines, wanting to mentain things in their present position

,even if it's not their " right " position. And gets very upset even tantrums if

we didn't do what he wants. He cried for a total of half an hour today over such

things.

For example, he cries if I took a blanket to the other room, and after a few

hours he also cries out loud if I brought the blanket back from that room! If I

took the TV remote control to flip channels, then put it on the other side of

the table he would take it back to original place. He's anxious observing

changes around him, gives tantrums if we changed his dirty socks or a piece of

his clothes to wash... Sometimes tries to put OUR arms in a certain position..

He's usually a happy and reasonably easy kid, but today he's generally anxious

and constantly nagging to get stuff or do things in a certain way.

He used to like certain clothes or toys and gets very attached to some of them

in the past, but it's suddenly a wider and more intense problem now. It was a

difficult day for sure!

We started intensive biomedical since two months, and added TMG and MTHF ten

days ago, all without any issues except for gains in speech and awareness, and a

little increase in stubbornness.

Any idea what is causing this new troubling behavior?

He's taking:

Probiotics

Digestive enzymes

Acetyl L-Carnitine

Selenium

Vit C

Multi vitms and minrls

MTHF

L-Taurine

MgSulfate cream

Reduced L-Glutathione lotion

MB12 injections

TMG

Vit D

Cod Liver Oil

Biotin

Zinc

Thank you!

Hi all, does anyone know if grapefruit seed extract fights strep/pandas bacteria or clostridia? We started it for yeast symptoms but I think it has helped both ocd and anxiety so I am wondering if this sudden onset flare that started in jan and looked alot like pandas could actually have been a yeast flare???...he didn't show positive on the strep tests but his yeast was high (and also high clostridia but not as high as yeast) on the oat test we did in jan. His symptoms improved with sporanox and flagyl and then most recently with candidase and grapefruit seed extract...the last one got him off of his obsession with playing with letters all day and he is back to interacting with his sister and other toys....any thoughts?-- Sent from my Palm Pre

Hi Noura,

We r dealing with a similar picture. We had a similar episode in december and

dan treated with vancomycin. Symptoms improved significantly. Then he had a

upper respiratory infection 2 1/2 weeks ago and then his stimming actually

turned into tics, repetitive movements, his fingers are always moving like he is

playing piano. He is extremely anxious, has bad mood swings, happy one minute

and then screaming and crying the next. He gets anxious if I ask him any

question or say lets go eat dinner. He wants dinner and even asks for it but

anxiety is so severe that when he gets food, he cannot overcome his anxiety to

eat food. He is walking on his heels, bending his fingers and has vocal

stims/tics??? We finally started azithromycin today and also getting workup for

PANDAS. I am pretty sure he fits the picture of PANS and needs to be treated for

that. I will see how his symptoms get. Last few days have been hell. I can

actually see your son's symptoms in my son also as how small changes or

anticipation of changes triggers anxiety attack. Did your son have a

flu/respiratory infection in the last few weeks? In my son's case it could be a

respiratory source but I am very suspicious about gut bugs as he has a new onset

constipation and has a history of clostridia also. But I am pretty sure this

time it is not clostridia as symptoms are different and he has more motor tics

and more severe anxiety, almost debilitating. Let me know if you want to

communicate via email also as whatever I learn from other parents on the forum

and other websites, I can share with you also.

, I am not an expert on naturals but when I was trying to learn more about

the possible treatments of pandas/pans, I found that some parents had good

results with GSE also as it has antibacterial properties also. So maybe it did

get rid of the bacteria that was causing the Pandas symptoms in your kid??? I

definitely need to learn a lot about pandas/pans and different forms of

treatments as I didn't find all the info on the pandas websites.

Hi, Please specify what is the test for PANDAS called, a " PANDAS " test?

I'm in Syria, maybe we don't even have this test. lol we'll have to ask around.

Maybe I'll ask for your help to treat this on my own if the symptoms continue

through the week.

Thank you for all the replies.

Yes, the strep test is called ASO and DNASE titers.....but 50% of the PANDAS kids do not have high titers.....you need to treat based on symptoms To: mb12valtrex Sent: Monday, March 19, 2012 5:00 AM Subject: Re: Increase in clinging and OCD

My daughter had the high titers along with the symptoms. I can send you a copy of what the lab order looks like for PANDAS if you want to show it to your child's doctor. A few of my friends have experienced great resistance from their child's pedi when it comes to PANDAS and testing for it. I was lucky to have a doctor in my area who tests and treats for it so I went directly to him. Let me know if you want me to email you the lab.

Hi,

my daughter also sufers from severe OCD at times, has always had separation

anxiety.....drs have told me it can't be PANDAS since it's not so sudden,

although it has come and gone with varying intensity over the years.

I have then just assumed it is another characteristic of my ASD child. we do

biomed, and treat for anxiety quite successfully with theanine and gaba, but

ocd, well, a whole different ballgame. we have no idea what to do with that one,

and it drives us all mad when it appears.

now i'm confused as to whether it coiuld be pandas after all.....

Please!

Btw, about half of the symptoms in the articles apply to my son.

Is it Vancomycin what you treated PANDAS with? How long did you need to give it

to your daughter?

Thank you,

Oral vancomycin is not systemic and is only good for gut bugs mainly clostridia.

The usual antibiotics used are azithromycin and augmentin and some others. I

think a lot of us need education on PANDAS/PANS prescription and natural

treatments. I am hoping more parents who have experience with pandas, will share

their experience in terms of the treatments used, how long did it take to see

the first improvement, maintenance therapy and other alternate treatments.

Thanks

I will email you the script directly. My daughter's doctor is treating her with bicillin IM injections every 2 weeks. Sometimes 3 weeks depending on scheduling. We started last Aug. and are still doing it. I will be getting repeat titers soon and then will determine whether to stick with the injections or not. I am currently researching the more natural treatments as well since I am aware of the negative impact of extended antiB treatment. But I do have to say it has majorly helped her and I have my daughter back. If you are on Facebook there is a group called "Parents of Kids with Pandas" that is a great resource. To learn more of the symptoms:

Btw, about half of the symptoms in the articles apply to my son.

Is it Vancomycin what you treated PANDAS with? How long did you need to give it to your daughter?

Thank you,

Noura

Here are 2 blogs I follow. I believe both moms are currently using natural treatments for PANDAS.http://www.regardingcaroline.com/http://grayson-youarewhatyoueat.blogspot.com/On Mar 19, 2012, at 12:18 PM, "alexis_d3378" wrote:

I am hoping more parents who have experience with pandas, will share their experience in terms of the treatments used, how long did it take to see the first improvement, maintenance therapy and other alternate treatments.

Thanks

Thanks Carolyn for sharing the blogs. This is really helpful. I have a few

questions though. If the symptoms that the child gets are related to the

antibodies and not the infection itself, then why do we use antibiotic during

the episode? What else could be done in an acute episose before resorting to

IVIG? If the child has already started using azithromycin, is it ok to draw the

blood for ASO and DnaseB titers?

Thanks

Is it an option to try to give your daughter Azithromycin for a couple of weeks and see what happens?Just a thought..Noura Re: Increase in clinging and OCD Posted by: " mamadelfi " guadalupemillan@... mamadelfi Mon Mar 19, 2012 7:04 am (PDT) Hi,my daughter also sufers from severe OCD at times, has always had separation anxiety.....drs have told me it can't be PANDAS since it's not so sudden, although it has come and gone with varying intensity over the years.I have then just assumed it is another characteristic of my ASD child. we do biomed, and treat for anxiety quite successfully with theanine and gaba, but ocd, well, a whole different ballgame. we have no idea what to do with that one, and it drives us all mad when it appears. now i'm confused as to whether it coiuld be pandas after all.....
