Guest guest
no strep thermophilus What does this mean? Probiotic suggestions please Hi all, Finally,I got a chance to order stuff from the US. I am looking for a good probiotic with high counts and also no strep thermophilus. The ones I know are Custom probio which I am still using and VSL which has Strep. Any other ones with at least 50 billion? Thank you in advance. Ayse
Guest guest
Hi, When originally researching probiotics, we, like you, specifically looked to exclude the strep thermophilus strain. For us, the reason was to avoid the risk of PANDAS or PANDAS-like symptoms. We use a combination of: Ultimate Flora Critical Care - 50 Billion CFUs per capsule (2 per day) http://www.renewlife.com/ultimate-flora-critical-care-50-billion.html Klaire Ther-biotic Factor 6 - 100 Billion CFUs per capsule (6 per day) http://www.klaire.com/prod/proddetail.asp?id=K-TF6 Culturelle - 10 Billion CFUs per capsule (4-5 of these per day to get to the 50CFU mark)http://www.klaire.com/prod/proddetail.asp?id=V109-03 My son has had very poor digestion since birth, and we have found this combination to significantly improve his digestive symptoms. Everything I've read says that a person cannot take too many probiotics, and the more strains you can take, the better. If you want to order from the Klaire site, you have to register with a doctor's code. Use code MCC as the doctor's code, and you will receive 20% off the total of your order. Guest guest
It is a beneficial probiotic bacteria called Streptococcus thermophilus. However, if you have PANDAS this can make symptoms worse. That is why I want to exclude this strain from my probiotic.Ayse no strep thermophilus What does this mean? Probiotic suggestions please Hi all, Finally,I got a chance to order stuff from the US. Guest guest
Wow. That is a lot of proBs per day! I'd love to do the same and have used all of the ProBs you listed. Is there a way to make it more affordable? All of them are great products, but pricey. Where do you order the other 2 proBs? Thanks for the info on Klaires. Guest guest
You aren't kidding - it really does add up! If my son's digestion were a little better, we might scale back to save some $$, but probiotics are the only thing we've found to help him in this area. GFCF did wonders for him in and of itself until he received the MMR, and then it was all seriously downhill from there. Since then, probiotics have been our lifeline. I read in a book somewhere that you should " take as much as you can afford. " At least the 20% off from Klaire helps a little! I usually stock up on Culturelle from drugstore.com when it is on sale, and I usually find the Ultimate Flora for the best price at iherb.com. But I also scout around a bit online just to make sure there are no great sales elsewhere before I click the " order " button in either case. Unfortunately, I haven't found the Ther-biotic Factor 6 anywhere but on the Klaire site, although I've found other Klaire products through third-party sites. Good luck! Wow. Guest guest
I have ordered the Renew Life Critical Care on Amazon. They offer a "subscribe and save" option as well which will save you a few more dollars. How much is it when it goes on sale at iHerb? I will check it out. You aren't kidding - it really does add up! Guest guest
I use Benebiotics for my son. May switch to VSL#3 but not too sure due to the cost. His digestive system is pretty ok so I think i capsule of Benebiotics is enough for him. Plus, I give him Digestive Spectrum enzymes in the afternoon. Guest guest
,Do you mind sharing what your son's digestive symptoms were and what you noticed on the probiotics? I do think Klaire is a good brand. We use Therbiotic Complete but I'm thinking of increasing his dosing and am interested in your experience with Factor6.Thanks,Sylvia I use Benebiotics for my son. Guest guest
,You really do not have to worry about strep unless your child has PANDAS. My son probably does not have PANDAS but when I tried probio Gold from Kirkman, he went nuts. So I thought it must be because of Strep and I did not purchase anymore probiotics with Strep in them anymore. Your probiotic is fine and if you are seing improvements, continue on that one. If you don't, you can get ones with more strains and higher counts. 5 billion cfu is little low for my son. We do like 200 billion cfu a day. Take care..
