Guest guest
Thanks everyone! Dealing with my son's issues has made me extremely cautious and most of the time I don't trust pediatrician's recommendations. Just wanted to ask if someone has experience with Florastor? is > > Hi everyone, > I am going to ask a question which is probably not even directly related to the forum but I am stressed out and I trust all the experienced moms here more than my toddler's pediatrician. My daughter who is 2 1/2 yrs old, has been on prophylactic dose of trimethoprim(primsol) for vesicoureteral reflux(bladder reflux). I potty trained her in june and since then she always tries to avoid BM till she can. Most of the times her BMs have been alright and occasionally she complains of bones coming out but those are the days when she has not consumed liquids and has eaten more rice or potatoes. About 5 days ago, I started liquid vitamin D for her and she became constipated. She didn't have a BM for more than 48 hours and she said that now she doesn't want the bones to come out. Initially, with the help of vaseline and small amount of rectal liquid glycerin, she was able to have the BM but possibly sustained a small tear. I continued the vitamin D and her constipation got worse especially when I gave her 1000 IU. Last night she had a bigger tear and had bleeding. I looked up vitamin D and yes it does cause constipation if you don't supplement magnesium with it. Now today I again used the liquid recal glycerin and she had a painful huge bowel movement, no bleeding though. Her pediatrician is recommending miralax but I am not comfortable with that as even though they say it is harmless, some mothers reported regression in their children on spectrum and some of the NT kids developed autistic traits. I am wondering should I just try more conservative approach and continue with liquids and fruits and vegetables and use protective vaseline to heal it and then start supplementing florastor as I feel that even though she is on half dose of antibiotic, it has caused problems with her gut and she actually only gets a BM if she gets goat yogurt. I also give her culturelle for kids on and off but I gues antibiotic just kills it and Sacch. boulardi may be a better option. Please help me regarding the miralax or if someone has any other ideas to help my daughter. > Thanks > is >
